ranger plus 5 liter

I know it is possible to swap a 5.0L into a Ford Ranger. How hard do you think it would be?

It's extremely simple. I had a buddy with a 351W Ranger once upon a time...

You need the motor, transmission, wiring harness, and computer for any 5.0L.
You also need a set of motor mounts and some specialty conversion headers (clearance on the driver's side is tight; steering column gets in the way, IIRC).
You can modify the 5.0L's oil pan to fit your crossmember or buy a conversion one.

That's it. I'd also highly recommend grabbing the radiator from the 5.0L, but it's not really necessary.

It's a very easy swap. If you're looking for a kit, they can be had for $500-$1,000, depending on what you want with your kit.

The 351W is basically the same. The #5 cylinder is EXTREMELY close, but it's workable. Just harder to fit in there.

Google it and I'm sure you'll find lots of how-to websites if you're looking for step by step instruction.

i want a truck that will have some towing power. so i don't think the little v6 would work. so a 5.0 would be an easy swap to do. I'm thinking the rearend might need to be beefed up also.

Yea. A friend of mine had a 70- something (?) ranger with a Windsor. That was one sick mofo.

Well...a stock 5.0L isn't going to hurt the Ranger rear end. If you're gonna be towing with it, though...it can't hurt.

yeah, plus with dirtbikes in the bed and then towing a motorcycle trailer, im thinking the rear suspension might need to be beefed up a little. Im sure you can find some strong truck rearend also. that are made for rangers and im looking at a 95+ ranger.

or even an old truck would be cool too.

An 8.8" or 9" would be cheap and easy, too.

Just because a ranger has a v8 doesnt mean it can tow anymore at all.

earlier small ford trucks were called the courier, not the ranger, there are 2 pre '76 couriers listed on collectorcartrader in CA.
