Im kinda tired of dragging...
Im getting a little bored just drag racing. I noticed that i will take longer routes home just to hit twisty roads. im not quite sure if the Focus can be used to auto x in, or if i can even afford the constant need for tires and such. I know that when you build a car, you need to pick one ot the other. so i feel i am at a crossroads right now. i can take the Drag road and get all of the drag mods or i can take the auto x road and deal with the suspention and auto x mods. anyone have any advice or suggestions? which mods could be made that will work for both so i can put off a complete committment to either side for a while longer...

i've did everything... in the drag racing scene, there is alot of law breaking involved, masses of bad drivers that like to race, and jail time involved.... drag racing is high profile and the kids will think you're cool.
in the "backroads" scene, its less a power game and more of a control game. you can drive with others or alone, but it can be just as dangerous or even more dangerous than drag racing... but driving skill shoots out of the roof and it effects daily driving as well. you dont even have to be doing something illegal to make it fun.
both are expensive.
like when it is raining outside and i want to give myself a challenge, i'll go out into the mountains and drive as fast as i can WHILE running over every reflector on the road. that way, i dont go stupid-fast and the course is still challenging.
just my input.

there is always my personal fav, rally!! find some dirt roads and go to town! the best mods for both, will be in suspension. it will help you corner better, and give you a better launch off the line. Of course the normal i/e/h also works for both.

wasn't the kona edition made for rally not drag?? and anyway i prefer rally much more skill involved and the risks are even greater. and i've also seen more foci in rally than in drag

I still prefer drag racing to anything else.
But if I had a Focus that ran high 16s, I'd probably look for something else to do too.

Thank you angel, ALWAYS THE VOICE OF ENCOURAGEMENT!!!
But anyways, the reason i am deciding is because i can dump all my $$$ into getting my 1/4 times down to a somewhat respectable level or i can spend it all on stuff like anti sway bars, lowering springs and adjustable shocks, a trip up to nor cal and the thunderhill driving course, a camber kit, etc.

well, its not really running over the reflectors.. it actualyl depends on the road. one of the roads closer to my house, there is a double-yellow line in the middle of the road with reflectors on both sides of the double yellow. i'll do something like drive with my left tires on the double yellow (between the rows of reflectors) so this gives me about a 3 in margin of error on either side of my tire. S-turns fuck me up when i do that stuff =)

i always thought that the focus was meant for auto x not dragging. foci just seem to slow to drag, but i've seen many nice ones in auto x and rally.

Welcome to my world Drags ARE boring... no skill :p Be advised, twisties are a million times more dangerous and require the utmost concentration, cause if you fuck up...you don't simply fall a couple carlengths back... you spin off a cliff and die.... just fyi. have fun!

Thanks for all of the info. I talked to the SCCA guy and wouldnt you know, i bumped my dumb ass up into Street Mods by taking out my back seat! so i think ill be putting those back in when i auto x. also i plan to be geting lowering springs, but it would put pe in Street Touring S class, as opposed to H-Stock class, anyone know how much harder STS is than HS? should i hold off on the springs till i get a feel for autox in HS class or shoud i just jump into STS?

ive done both..................driving fast in a straight line cant hold a candle to wringing your car out at 9/10ths on a public road. a drag race is about 15 seconds of excitement. twisty roads? shit, there is no comparison. lets see how the "nos" boys handle going from napa to berryessa via back roads, vs someone with good shocks, springs and tires.
actually, that would be a shitload of fun. i did it with baysho (sho owners club in SF) a few months ago. it was a blast. sro should do something like that.
then again, given the average age on this board, maybe not.

unlike drag racing, where up in class is usually synonomis with more money being spent and more experience, in autox, there will be seasoned vets in every class......it's all about the driver, not neccesarrily how much they have invested......the last time i went to an event, QTD was made by a guy in a nearly stock, 120hp miata.....not the vipers or porsches that were there.....

Thats why you guys dont enjoy it as much as some of us. The less time it takes you to cover that 1320, the more fun you have. And there is more to dragging than just stabbing the gas and hoping your faster than the other guy. Their is just as much tuning involved as in road racing. I take pleasure in tuning my engine AND suspension to squeeze out more an more performance. Hell i guess playing basketball is just a matter of throwin the ball in the hoop, how hard can that be? But i dont wanna start that argument again so..... Anyways im just saying arguing drag racing takes no talent to compete is just being ignorant of the sport.

You dont need to chose one or the other. I've got a fox body 5.0, which is mainly a drag car, but I went autoX this weekend, and did fairly well. What I'm going to do is build the motor first, and try to get it into 12s on the motor alone. Then after I get that done, I'll work on the suspension and then kick some mean ass on the autoX course.
