Just like anything else, you buy insurance AFTER getting your bike.

If you're buying from a dealer and getting financing, like a car, you will probably be required to get insurance before taking delivery of the bike. If from a private party, or buying the bike outright from the dealer, you don't need insurance until it's time to register it, or until you get pulled over.

That depends on bike and rider experience and driving experience. I got a quote through Progressive as a brand spanking new rider. Bikes that were under 500cc's seemed to range about 25-50 a month, I believe I did full coverage. Over 550cc's tended to range to about 3-4 times that amount. And yes that is another reason why it is good to go with a slower bike as a newbie.

Main thing your not me, your quote might be different, try going to www.progressive.com try a couple different bikes see what you get.
