searchin' for a car
alright guys, im in the market for a new car and i need some help. i have a range of around 15 grand and i want a good all around car. i want it to be mostly stock or all stock and it needs to have good handling and good power that way. i plan on modifying it to my interest later on for better handling and such, but i want it to be well off stock. im really into tuners and not so much into the whole muscle car deal for a daily driver, which is what im looking for, but something that will perform nicely when i want to abuse it, if you know what i mean. i need it to handle everything i throw at it easily. i want to be able to do well on auto cross and maybe a dragstrip every now and then. i have also wanted to increase my ability in drifting, but that isnt neccissary. anyone have any ideas?
right now, im looking at maybe a tc or and evo even though i know neither is well suited for drifting.

I like the MX5, RX7, or Mazdaspeed6 (yes, in your price range), the RX8 is a little tougher to autocross than the rx7, although the 7 is also not the best at that I must admit. Basically, though, any car can be built for autocross, hell, the fastest car in FModified at NNJR (a competitive region) is actually a Yugo GL, closely followed by a AC Cobra SuperchargedV8, and believe me, no two cars could be further apart from the factory. Point being, there's alot of good cars. Honestly, I'm kinda partial to the old Datsuns, and have had to pass up several opportunities to get one (which I'm still kicking myself for, since they are pretty sweet). For Solo2, it's so great, since any car you get can be competitive.
Just remember, with all the racing you do, you will never win for quite a while. It took me 2 years to get my first win in the IKF, 2 more to get my first win in Solo-2/Autocross, and also took me a year to get my first trophy in brackets. Now, granted, since then I've done alot of winning in all of those, but it takes time, and practice/money (same difference between the two, you'll find).
Honestly, I'd suggest having one car for daily driving and one for racing. Your race car will break when you need it most, believe me (Murphy's Law of Physics). It's best, in my opinion, to have two vehicles, even if you drive your race car to the track, so you always have that backup car (aka a "winter beater") for when that other car is down. A clutch is a 2 day job for most shops, transmission can be a week or more.
Just a few things to think about.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but neither of those are great handling cars in my opinion, at least without major work. Now, they aren't the worst, but believe me, they're far from the best. Now, granted, with some work (struts, anti-roll and torsion bars, camber kit, etc. etc.) it will be a pretty nice handling car. And neither are very powerful, either... one kid at KU has a accord dohc-vtec (h22) with mods and it wasn't close to my little stock 2.0 mx6.
Now, granted, it could be a nice bracket and solo2 car...

And later evo's (idk about X, but I know EvoI-IX were all built on a slight variation of the 4G63 - rotated 180degrees or something like that iirc, and also somewhat stronger internals).
Just with the DSM's, avoid the 4G64.

Okay, here's your first lesson in how forums work. See, 99% of members will sign up on a forum, and never post (this inflates your member data ... you'll notice on here it's probably 2,000pgs or so of zero-post users). Of those who do post, though, 50% will sign up and hang around for less than a week, either to reply to an active thread or start a new question thread, and usually never return to the site for replies.
This guy is one such person, notice the post count of 1. He probably never checked back in, or if he did, did it like a week or so later just to read the replies. Maybe he forgot the URL or just didn't bother caring to check back in.
General rule on a forum: don't revive posts more than 3 months old, unless you are adding something to it (like a how to thread where you've done it and have further advice for those who'd try it) or asking a question about it. I know, it's not in the rules anywhere, but it's generally frowned upon, mostly because with threads like these, the OP (original poster) will not see it, and (sorry to break it to ya) but you're not adding much new to the thread.

Well, thank you. You've been very kind and helpful to me.
BTW, I know how forums work. It's possible that... Nevermind, this is all unnecessary and a waste of time.

I stated in my very first post that I am 19 years old. I know you've accomplished much, much more than I have, and deserve much more respect here than I do. But I'm not 5 years old. Also, my intentions were not really to "add much new to the thread." If you didn't notice, it was more or less a joke. I didn't expect any reply. Maybe a smily. It would have been so much easier to have smiled and ignored it. Or you could have sent me an e-mail if you don't want me posting in older threads anymore, rather than giving me a public lecture.
(Exhale) Anyway, I have really enjoyed it here so far, and I hope to learn a lot more and be able to answer some questions soon.

Sorry about the lecture, just that I've seen lots of people on here who just didn't know. Didn't mean it that way.
