Anybody have any recommendations for still shots? Like what kind of background to have, should I increase the aperture(lower number) to get the blurred effect in the background, or should I decrease aperture to capture the background, etc...If you guys could just list things you like to do when taking stills taht would be more than helpful! Thanks guys!

It really depends on the situation, the lighting, the type of background etc. You just gotta go out there and shoot it. The lower the aperature the more blurry the background will be, but sometimes other parts of the car will be out of focus too.

Most of the time you want the audience to focus on the car, not the things going on in the background.

I like to tilt my still shots. If you tlit it just right it will make the car look faster. As far as the background goes, in focus is ok, as long as there is not too going on in it.

Here is an example.

IMO this is an example on how NOT to take pictures. If you like to look at the object straight on, you'll have to tilt your head. I like to take pictures that have a nice depth of field (DOF). It makes me want to stare at the picture for a while. I will try and post of a pic of an example.

I love DOF as well. I like to shoot abstracts with DOF like this.

but as far as full car shots, an in focus background is alright to me. I think the tilt just adds a little more style.

ok my real suggestion.
go to amazon.com
search for
How to photograph cars.
should be 2 books. the one you are looking for is grey and has a photo of a side of a car going through a tunner.
buy it.
read it
follow the rules
once you have that all down then you can add your own style.
