This is a question I have also, anyone know any actual facts about if you can or can't? I have seen cars out at the races with no hoods.

I'm going to be running my stang with no hood until my cowl hood is finished, but I made sure that it was legal to do so. So take it from me, its legal. I talked to my neighbor who is a scpd and he looked it up for me. As long as your vision isn't obstructed then its cool, but it will make your car stick out a whole lot quicker then with the same car with a hood, so be careful.

I ran into a kid in a totally unsafe car about a year ago at the races. The kid didn't have a hood on the car. I went through the CVC over and over again and couldn't find anything that specifically covered driving with no hood.

If I can articulate (explain) why, based upon my training and experience, driving without a hood is unsafe, then I can cite you for 24002 CVC. That's about all I could find.

Drive safe,

Wait, you are kidding me right popo?

So in your expert opinion, you could site someone for stuff that isn't in the code- like the ever flamable nitrous oxide? We won't go down that road again- unless of course you have new information, then I would love to reopen that discussion.

Do you know that hoods now days are made quite differently than they used to be? When good old American muscle was the only thing out there- the hoods were extremely solid. Of course being an officer of the law you have seen many accidents, have you ever noticed that the hoods fold?

One might think, well yeah thats just what happens. Nope. Seems back in the day they had a problem with the hood bolts getting shearded off in an accident and sending the hood through the windsheild, so now they are designed to fold. Seems to me driving with out a hood would almost be a safety improvement. Sure one could argue that if the engine exploded someting could happen to the driver, but along the same lines I'm sure more accidents have been caused by a hood flying open as you are cruising down the road.

I saw a guy goiing to race one time with a gas can subbing as his gas tank- ok, that I can buy that you guys can cite cite for that. But you know what, there is probaly a VC for that- probaly involving someting like an approved fuel container or something.

I'm just wanting to know where you guys get
your "profeesional" opinions from. Also don't you think if it was a problem that one of you fellow officers would have figured out where that code is- since hot rodders have been riding with no hoods since before the fifties?
