ok so i got a speeding ticket and its my first violation. the question is about defered judification. if i get it does my ticket show up in my insurance? next is if i get it and then later on the year i get another ticket, do i still have the option of taking defensive driving? or is it like take drivers ed or defered judification and that 1 choice and count for the whole year and one or the other takes the place of the other one

First, it's not defered judification . It's witheld adjudication. And the judge does'nt have to take it easy on you. And 1slkcivic is an acquaintance from this board so it's like giving advice to a friend . I'M NOT A LAWYER. Now, if the judge falls for it he has the option of reducing whatever fine and not assesing points or not. Keep all this in mind when you try it.

For California people, I'll try to find out if our court system out here even offers such a plea. I've never heard of it.

Witheld adjudication is'nt a plea at all, its a judgement which may be granted like any other . Basically it's like a suspended sentence. The actual plea which is used first is a plea of no contest to butter up the court. Then a motion for the judge to withhold adjudication is made by the defendant. Good lookin out though. :)

take traffic school and it won't show up on your record, or at least in CA.

True:
You can only go to traffic school every 18 months.

This might help you out more than you think. If you break it down you can get up to 3 extentions (each for 30 days). Just walk up to the traffic window and ask the lady nicely.

This can then be prolonged by things like vacation, school in a different area (college out of state, other side of state) or what ever you can think up. All you have to do is send a letter with your request for an extention.

If you have the time:

When you actually go to court the first time (wether you're guilty or not) all they ask is if you want to fight the ticket or if you admit guilt. Fight the ticket. This sets the ticket back further.

This then benifits you in several ways: You can extend your ticket so that you can go to traffic school again. If you are extending it this long the officer will: think that you are right and not bother showing up to fight you, not bother showing up because he forgot copletely about the whole incident. Anything doubt of the officer's testimony you show in court, you win.

Even if you do go to school, you might not have to pay the ticket/ insurance costs if you prolong it long enough to go to traffic school.

I've done this before and actually delt with the ticket a YEAR later.
