I find that my favorite shoes are an old pair of Vans that are REALLY worn out. The sole is really thin, and soft, allowing a lot of flexibility with a good sensitivity for pedal control. Try and find an old pair of comfortable shoes, or start on a pair right now. You'll like it.

Dockers semi-formals
Too big.. Keep stepping on gas and brake at same time...
Oh and Nike sandals... Get caught under my pedals sometimes.
I like a nice strappy pump.

hahahahahaha....
funny replies..
but you know its considered really important to wear good sensitive shoes by drifters in Japan. Some wear skater type shoes and others just buy those race car shoes.
I just wear my most worn out pair of Addidas skate shoes so you can get the most feel for the pedal.
Its also popular to wear coveralls, you know those one piece body suits that zip up, like mechanics and race car drivers use. The reason is they come in handy when your car breaks between races and your crawling on the ground or inside the engine bay trying to fix your shit. You take it off when the races are done and go eat at the nearest Ramen shop.

no shit, but what I meant was its like a BIG DEAL if your not wearing some, they take racing REALLY seriously, almost too seriously where it takes the fun out of it sometimes.

i cant believe no body said they wear no shoes? Fuck! i recon there is nothing better than wearing no shoes when driving. I always wore no shoes driving when i was growing up and i guess i got used to it. i can drive with shoes sure, but no shoes is the go.

Shoes aren't that important. How much feel do you get out of a throttle that controls a plate and a clutch that squeezes some liquid around? Those don't even touch the road, the question should be how many use unpowered steering. The sensetivity of unpowered steering has saved my life about twice now.
And I'm referring to cars that are SUPPOSED to have unpowered steering, not ones that have their power steering broken that the owners are too cheap to fix.

i like my no power steering. i like my 1970 adidas skate shoes i wear driving. for some reason my brakes lock or my tyres spin when i stomp on pedals with my steelcaps on...

Being as this is a drifting forum, I think most would agree that throttle control is almost infinitesimally more important than steering. Drifting is a game of balancing the car's load on the tires. Once you've initiated a drift, the steering wheel is pretty useless, it's all about controlling the weight. It, in turn(pardon the pun), controls over/understeer, exit speed, and the line you end up taking through the turn. I'd say that makes shoes pretty important! =)

Then go barefoot.
Think about how much you're feeling through your feet.
You won't feel the weight shift, You're not going to feel the turn angle change, you're only feeling the texture of the pedal, You won't even know how deep you're depressing the pedal.

I'm not implying you feel these things through your feet! =P I'm implying that proper control of the accelerator is very desirable. Moreso than steering control. Boots, or big clunky shoes, or even regular old tennis shoes with too stiff of a sole can impede this. No shoes... maybe for some, a bit impractical for me though =P

A pair of beaten-up navy blue Vans, or my new gray ones. Vans make good-looking shoes: suitable for any occasion!

ill where any type of shoes except one time i wore no shoes and one of my toes on the left foot got cramped and it hurt so bad i couldnt even push in the clutch.
If I am not wearing a cute pair of flats, I use a pair of worn out airwalks I walked the soul off of years ago. They are so thin that water soaks through in the wet weather. I use them because the sweade is supple enough to flex, they protect against embers and hot shit that falls on them when welding, and fire protection AND they are free :D
