How much hp should a good drift car have? With corollas im asuming that you can get away with under 200hp? how decent should a well tuned NA 89-90 240sx do since turbo choices for them are limited?

Sheer torque to the rear wheels is only one way to lose traction for drifting, and probably the easiest since you only have to mash a pedal. The weaker the car, the more you'll need to make use of other skills to compensate for lack of power, but pretty much any rwd car can drift. Go read some other threads to learn some techniques.

There is no formula for racing. Some say you'll need power, and some say you'll need a well balanced car. Whatever setup that will make you the next drift king would be your setup.

Yeah power is nice but it isn't neccessary. I hear it's easier to drift when you have more power. But in the end it ultimately goes technique. Haha I've seen a sileighty do tight circles forever (seemed like it) on a skidpad though.
I've seen a lot of peeps with nice 86s wiht some nice stuff that can't drift for crap. So it comes down to technique. Probably suspension as well, if you have floaty suspension your movements will be delayed, with stiffened suspension you can break traction easier with the added reaction. I've seen stock 86s drift like champs too, so in the end technique and practive will make your drifting better.
Check out club4ag there is a nice article on drifting there, and the reality of drifting...
