In less than a month of practicing in open parking lots i've gone through a set of tires, my allignment is gone, and my front brake pads are gone too. This is a real expensive hobby, how do you guys afford this? Are there any special methods that i can do in order to save tires and parts or does it just take lots of practice?

as a few of us worked out on this very forum, not too long ago... the way to drift sucessfully is:

1) live off Ramen for a year
2) in that same year, do not get a haircut

this, grasshopper, is the secret to dorifto. :D

i can get 4 tires for 100 bucks they last quite a while.
brakes if you can do ure self is not expensive. as for allignment should only be 60 bucks at sears.
so figure 4 sets of tires a year +- a few sets $400
brakes about $100 a year
and allignment should eb good for 1-2years $60.
total cost $550 a year or $40-50 a month.

When you get your alignment done, make sure you tell them you want 1.5 - 2 degrees of negitive camber, so you can hug them corners better. So make it 8 sets of tires for this year.:D

yep.. $$$$$

what I did with the hachi was I pulled tires out of the dumpster, people through away perfectly good tires. Grid II and G' Grid's are a dime a dozen and can be found in great dumpsters all over the place.
You can buy them for like $60 each in 15" size. I would race with 195/60/14 or close to that on the SSR mesh rims, always good tread up front and whatever out back, when the tires up front were gone, I rotated to the rear. On average we race gymkhana twice a month, and 1 or 2 circuits a month, plus all the practice time 3-4 times a week in the mountains, so after its all said and done, I would go through atleast 10-12 tires a month. But now with the Silvia and 17" tires, I can no longer get those "free" dumpsters goods.

Thats just the TIRE cost, don't forget, change your motor oil, tranny oil, lsd oil, clutch, brakes, and fix all the broken shit you get along the way, its not cheap at all. If not pepared to spend that much then your better off becoming a drift poser.

Yes, the dumpster, or a even better place the junkyard is the best place for tires. People always throw away good trash.

Yes drifting is expensive. I blew 2 tires drifting and 1 on a touge run. When you crash into shit is also expensive so you gotta think safety I usually do my crazy drifting during an autox. Anyway here are some tips from what i"ve learned:

Go to tire shops a lot and look through their used tire inventory (save mucho money this way)

Go to those cheap ass tire shops to get tires installed not something like AMerica's tire (those little tires shops look like they need teh money)

Goto the junkyard a lot! You never know what kinda goodies you'll find. I got some 2 talon rims with tires for 30 bux. Haha that was one of the tires I blew though. I even got rear discs for 80 bux. The older the car the more parts you can get too! I see lotsa 86s at the yard and supra wheels scattered about. It's always nice to have spare wheels lying around especially if you going to a drift event far far away. When I was at buttonwillow one of my tires unmounted itself after I plowed into a turn.

Learn to work on your own car. IE parts installation, oil changes, tire rotation, basic stuff...

Save money haha I have trouble doing this.

Drifting isn't cheap but it is fun. Try to drift using techniques that won't jack your cars parts up also like weight transfer. Like clutch kick and stuff.
