Its no longer a "competition of speed", its more of a "competition of skills". If you're new into this sport, prepare to crash and pay for expansive repairs. Even if you're careful and not crash, you'll go thru tires like a *****. Expansive suspension repair is gonna kill you too.
I'm not trying to be a dick. :p
becareful out there.
The tires thing holds true for road racing also. 1 day at the track and the outside edges of both my front tires are completely bald. :(

DJ, too bad me and my friends are in Canada right now. My friend in his Protege 5 (Mazda Familia S Wagon) can pull sharp square corners at over 90km/h. Crazy. I couldn't eat and sleep that night afer being in his car.

this may sound very dumb, but what exactly is drifting? racing fast on corners, curves etc??
thanks

Check other posts in this forum, it's been explained very well by a couple people.

nah, thats grip racing, taking the car/tires to the traction limit into turns, keeping traction to all four tires through the turn.
drifting is going into the turn FASTER then normal and purposely losing traction on all four tires in order to get the car sideways so it will go around the turn instead of flying off the track.

instead of keepign traction througha turn a drifter will TRY to brake taction and "slide through the turn. no this is not the same as a power slide. Drfiting you can sting a series of corners together and a good drifter will not regain traction ones in those corners. before entering the turn they down shift into 2nd to brake traction (well thats 1 way..theres way more ways liek handbrake, power over, wheel drop and more) He will then rev the engine to nearly red line a pop the clutch causing the rear tires to spin. the back will kcik out and the car will take the entire corner sideways in a full conter lock.
theres you brief over view of drifting...odd cuz I don;t even havea car and I'm trying to explian lol. oh well you will haev to settle for R/C drifting skillz lol.

the shift lock isnt the best way to drift for your transmission..

I know many people are not gonna agree with me and prolly will all give me shit. But I think those REALLY good grippers aren't really that good if they can't beat the REALLY good drifters. Mike I m not saying I know more than you and you are definitely a much much much better drifter if compared to me. But as much as I like drifting, drifting is not about the speed...although being able to drift through a corner really fast proves you are the shit. But saying REALLY good drifters beating REALLY good grippers in terms of racing or speed. I have to disagree with it totally.
Maybe they're more like REALLY goof grippers. j/k
