I'm biased, because I had a '66 Mustang. So I'll go ahead and say '63 Corvette Z06. Just because Mustang is the obvious answer.

I would choose the 1970 Chevrolet El Camino 454SS LS6. It would do the 1/4mile in the high 13's low 14's because it would generate so much torque that when you mix it with it's poor weight distribution the rear end would loose traction and burnout for more than 30ft!

El Camino '70 LS6 ... ahhh. Notice my choice ... '70 Nova Chevelle 454 H.O. LS6.
What were those motors rated for, 500hp? 450hp? Either way, I know they were seriously underrated from the factory. Back when insurance was determined more by how much hp than by statistics and cost of replacement. Of course, HP still does certainly factor in.

They actualy had over 500HP and there was the 454 LS7 that never went into production rumored to have over 800HP. That's why most ppl underestimate the el caminos at races until they reach the finish line and find the el camino's driver already picking up the jackpot.

No, technically speaking, a "Muscle Car" comes from the Muscle Car Era (technically, from the first Pontiac GTO up until the oil embargo of 1973 ... although a few cars from the later-70's are still considered "muscle cars" by some experts). I guess I did get a little carried away with the '87 GNX and '82 Trans Am myself. But, yeah, they need to be carbureted, with a heavy body, and tons of torque. The '70 LS6's are perfect examples (corvette, nova, el-camino). 450hp if memory serves, over 500 ft-lb, and that's just the reported numbers; many make 50-100hp more than the stated crank #'s at the wheels, and it's VERY well known many of the biggest, baddest cars of that era were heavily underrated stock to keep insurance costs down.

Yeah good point what is sad I think is that GM cancelled their plan on building the 454 LS7 in 1970, if I'm not wrong. An engine reported to have 500bhp or more according to factory figures. I have always wondered what an El Camino or Chevelle equipped with an LS7 would run on the quarter mile.
