Okay, here's the before pics...

^^ Track day last year. Sadly, I forgot to snap a bunch of pics of her before I started working on the old peeling paint.

As you can see, the paint was peeling. I sanded off where it peeled off, and decided, wtf, if I'm painting two vents, might as well paint all four, give it a real nice, aggressive look. Purchased Lacquer black paint and clearcoat, got the old buffing wheel out, and got to work.

During re-spray pics...

Put down 5 layers of black lacquer (I always have a hard time spelling that, lol) and 3 layers of clearcoat. Finally, time to break out the old Nail Polish Remover (to get rid of any stray paint) and start peeling off that tape!

So, tell me, wha'cha think?

Next project is the front bumper. Oh yeah, I also re-sprayed the rear spoiler (I had done alot of touch-up, so I buffed that and sprayed some clearcoat on there to help protect it against the weather). After the front, I'll be working on the sides, anything back of the rear tires (other than the spoiler/trunk lid) I'm ignoring because of how much rubber gets on there from burnouts.

No money shots?

Nope. I will have photos of the new paint on the front bumper soon ... as I had suspected, I couldn't find a perfect match, so who knows what color the guy who painted the car used. Wasn't the original, though, I know that!

But, you can't see any more peeling paint, and I bondo'd and sanded it smooth.

Thanks. Might have to change it - trying to convince the NJDMV this is a "collector car" so idk... maybe I'll buy another for the street (old or rare enough for emissions exemption), move some parts over from this one, and sell this one.

Your ride looks sweet XM, should be a collectors car.

1/3650 roughly ... not good enough for the 1/2500 "rare car" numbers for the NJDMV. I'm hoping ~1,000 are crushed in 'cash for clunkers' since that would make it a rare enough car (with a couple hundred others crushed over the years). I need to contact a car club or Pontiac (the manufacturer) to request production numbers for 1987 as well as crushed numbers, and if it comes out to less than 2500 left, I get the exemption. Otherwise, no exemption ... just not rare enough I guess. (originally Formula 305/4bbl which was the second rarest ... less than a thousand GTA's so those were the rarest in '87)

I just found out that my next door neighbor has the same exact firebird that you have X.

Nice car :) i would put flames on it so the name of the car gets it's name :)

Thanks for the compliment. No on the flames ... I have other plans right now. Including saving up to buy a new SBC 383 crate motor (short block) and some nice, radical, aluminium heads and a high-rise intake so I can get the car running again.

Hey XM how fast does it do 1/4 mile?

I've done it in 12.5 with my own street tires, borrowed some slicks and went 11.8 in Michigan (Leroy's slicks) and NJ (Rob's slicks). Engine's blown now, and I'm out of cash (as you can see from my cheap-o fixes on the bodywork) so I'm driving the HHR and saving for a new block for the Formula.

Thanks all.

New Update: Vehicle is up for sale. I don't have the cash, due to college expenses, and it needs a lot of expensive parts and work. Still, as you can see, fairly clean, and it does have some good parts in it. Asking $600 OBO for it, if it doesn't sell, it'll go on eBay. I do know I can get $300 for it at the local junkyard, so no offers less than that (for obvious reasons...). Holley 750, edelbrock performer, heads/cam 388 small block, needs MAJOR work. But the body/frame is good, no accidents on record. All pics on site.

Thanks!

Personally, I'm a Pontiac Firebird fan. I drive a 1996 Base Model Firebird v-6 stick shft. To be honest, I love the new paint.

Grew up driving my brothers firebird, hellacious power for how light the car was in comparison to other muscle cars. he had his a bright shiny blue, liked it alot more than the dark red.

Robin -

you want to save me the trouble of looking up my password and logging out of jaker and into xtrememodifier, and just ban this guy? I warned him once about doing this before ... he obviously didn't listen. Dealer's choice on the ban time. Revived the same thread twice in a row w/o any posts in between makes me think it just looks up random words, then types w/o reading the thread and hits reply.
