I plan on picking up a middleweight sportbike within the next month. Im looking at the CBR600F4i or a GSXR600...I know that the Gixxer is more of a track bike, and a lil faster than the CBR,but I am looking for a good all around bike. How many folks on here own/have experience with these bikes? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.THanks!

this is all from the march 2001 issue of the Motorcycle Consumer News. volume 32, number 3.

they test all the 2001 600's - yamaha yzf-r6 (2nd place), suzuki gsx-r600(3rd place), triumph tt600 (5th place), kawasaki zx-6r (4th place), honda cbr600f4i (1st place)

Well...if you want all around usability, then the cbr is more for you. you want sheer performance nubers then the gsxr is better. But for a first bike, the cbr is what you need. Although, you may want to look at the regular f4.

Check out some of the other threads here for more info.the ninaj 6r is one of the most under appreciated bikes out right now. For a beginner, you wont even know how to harness the power any of the current 600s have. An advantage of the ninja is its smooth motor, which makes good power down low so you dont have to rev the crap out of it get moving off the line. In town, and in traffic it will be a better bike than the gsxr600, and maybe even the f4i.

THATS A BUNCH OF BULL SHIT CUZ HOW IS THE F4i GONNA WIN OVER THE GIXXER 6. GO LOOK AT SPORT RIDER AND MOTOR CYCLIST AND THE GIXXER IS THE WINNER. THE F4i IS COOL BUT THERE IS NO WAY IT COULD BEAT A GIXXER. AND YOU SAID THE R6 CAME IN SECOND OVER THE GIXXER IS ALSO BULL CRAP. THIS WAS THE RANK ACCORDING TO SPORT RIDER MAGAZINE.
1.GIXXER 6 A RATING OF 95
2.F4i TIED WITH R6 BOTH AT 94.5
4.NINJA 93
5.TRIUMPH AT 80 SOMETHING.

man, calm down. that's what motorcycle comsumer news says, and that's how they ranked them, not me. it's a hella detailed article on them all, and if you actually took the time to read it, you'd understand why they ranked them they way they did.

i personally would take an r6 or the f4i, reguardless of ratings. and this is not intended to be a flame at all, i'm just stating my source again and suggesting that people possibly read the articles before getting all upset.

From the reveiws I have read...the Gixxer is the fastest 600 around the track, and the only 600 to make more than 100hp at the rear wheel...however,some mags rate a bike on more than just speed. Most say that the gixxer and R6 are more at home on the track, but the CBR and the ZX6 are better all around...

What Mike said, he has it pretty much on the button.

Buy what you like and you will be happy.

FYI...the Gixxer line has definitely more aftermarket parts available than the new F4i. Makes me want to have the GSX-R even more...

ANd don't forget the ZX7! I'm a Suzuki guy to the core, but I must admit that the ZX7's "deficiencies" certainly make it a better all purpose sport bike than the GSXR 600 and GSXR 750. The ZX7 is slower, heavier, and does not handle as well but its a DAMN FINE bike to ride any day of the week. You just won't win any races with one, but if you only looking to sport ride, don't overlook the ZX7 as it will certainly please you.

i have a 98 ZX7-R and i love it. well, i'd rather have something lighter and with more power...but it's not about how good the bike is at all...what good is a lot of power if you can't ride well??? take it to a nice twisty road and the best rider on a slow bike will kick your butt on whatever you ride...at the track, i've seen guys with ninja 500's kick the crap outta some guys with liter bikes. they may not do well on the straight, but they pass the liter bikes in the turns...

so all this talk about which bike is best is pretty much cool...but think about learning how to ride first...then go for the "best" bike...think of it this way...how would you feel if you had let's say a GSXR600 and this guy with a ninja250 comes up and passes you on a turn???

if any of you guys go riding up mine's road...there's this asian guy on a dual sport...knobby tires and all...and he passes all sorts of sport bikes. this guy is truley gifted at riding...so anyways...work on your skill level before you get too into which bike is better...just my 2 cents...

And you are absolutley sooooo correct! A ZX7 is more forgiving for a novice rider than say a GSXR600 - and in a way, that can make the ZX7 a superior bike.
