If you have an older vehicle without an airbag, Grant's security kit that makes the steering wheel removable is an option - I'm in the middle of installing one on my '86 Mustang, and I'll post some pics on Tuesday when I get back to the office.

Pet snake in the driver's seat works great!

haha....
What I like to do is buy one of those two way paging alarms. Just hook that up but don't use any LED's. so when someone tries to jack your car it only lets the remote know. Then you do your thing.

I agree about the paging car alarm. Most everything else just gets ignored.
Now, here are some car alarm ideas that can't be ignored.

if you have power door locks with keyless entry, what ive seen soem folks do is make like a "deadbolt" type of lock for the door. It will require you to drill a hole in your door though for a metal rod to slide in and out when you hit your alarm open & close button.
other then that, just do what you've already listed in conjunction with your alarm so that way it makes the thief do more work to steal your car & may be turned away. Another thing is GPS trackin, theres numerous sites that show you how to do it yourself, just google.

One thing I've always found effective is a + and - wire in the seat, 12v fused at say 2amps. Switch hidden away somewhere (depends on the vehicle, find a place you'll know that the thief won't know of, and where you don't have to sit in the seat to work the switch). It's independent of the alarm, so if they see that and cut it (I've seen that happen) this will still be activated. They sit down, and they're shocked at what they find!
