why do you want a civic si? not a flame (well, not really) just a question...

there are so many better cars for the money

if you want nasty VTEC speed for cheap i would recommend you do the following....

buy a 1992 Civic hatchback w/ high miles (weighs like 2200lbs)....$2k
drop a B18c5 in that bitch...$8k
JRSC....$3k
you are now runnin 12's, revvin to 85000rpms for about the price of a brand new Si

if you like the look of the 96-2000 civics you can easily do a front end conversion (headlights, hood, Si bumper), other than that the cars have the same body pretty much.

if you want the Si try the classifieds at erols.com, or http://www.autotrader.com , or http://www.cars.com ....

Or if you dont want to put out the $8gs for the Type R engine, you could do a B18c1(GSR), and have about the same results....or the almight H22a swap......with the 'lude engine, it would handle like shit, but be a sick ass drag car!!......just my .02.....God i want a H22 swap

Or you could get a 1st gen GSX, and with about $2k in mods, have that thing hauling ass as well

Or buy a used 240, and do some shit to that.....

The list could go on forever....

Oh, and about the headers....You will feel some gain, but not as much as if you had full catback exhaust.....you need to open up all the exhaust to optimize performance.....With just headers, you will get alot of flow into a stock exhaust setup, and have a lot of back pressure....

Peace:D

i dont care if anyone does it thats im not the trendy type ! i just think it might sound cool like a street bike possibly scince streetbikes have 4 cilinders!

at 8000rpms id imagine itd cause hearing damage w/o protection....VERY ****ING LOUD. retardly loud. and of course it wouldnt be anywhere near street legal, and if you tried to drive it on the street you attract cops all the way from canada.

Nick

Are you talking about running headers, with stock exhaust???.....if thats the case, there wont be much difference audibally....but it wont help performance as much, cuz the gases will bottleneck after that

If you are talking an open header set up, it will be loud as hell, like everyone has already noted.....you will also lose some low-end due to the fact that there is no back pressure....however, you will gain some top-end....its all about sacrafices

I have a B18c1 in my 92 hatch and that is loud with headers and a catback N1. I'm not kidding my girlfreind knows I'm coming home when I'm half a mile away. The only time it's quit is below 3500. Now I can only imagine what screams would come out with an open header. And No it wont sound like a sportbike. Either you're stupid or you're messin with us.

Disconnected Honda exhaust sounds like SHIT! No real point to it...buy a good catback system, with the right amount of backpressure.

One of my teachers does. Yes he races. I am in the ninth grade. Its on an alfa romeo so I don't know how a civic would sound. But if you really want to haul ass get a civic sedan any model will do from 1990 - 2001 put a b18c5 engine in it slap a turbo on it do the 4-2-1H if you are in Cali. If you are in Fla. do a 4-1H CAI and don't for get put the big V-Tec sticker on the front window thats an extra 500hp dyno tested and proved.j/k I forgot the website though.

White Rider--->

Turbo cars dont have header, they have exhaust manifolds....this is needed, because the turbo is spooled by the exhaust the engine puts out.....I dont know if you just didnt know that, or slipped or what, but i'll share what little knowledge i have....:)

stock si with 10k miles isnt gonna be cheap..u want it for styling? do what i did..buy an ex and smake the exterior to si spec. :) *coughcoughbuymycarcoughcough*

and if u want potential out of a dohc vtec get a gsr (b18c1) which has a lot of potential and go turbo. :)

Thanks I didn't know that. But like i said I am in the ninth grade. I thought a exhaust manifold and a header were the same thing.

They are kinda the same thing....but not really....the only real similarity is that they are in the same place on the car, and they do transport exhaust gases....but thats about all i can think of in terms of similarities....i dont know, i just woke up from my afternoon nap...*yawn*

I wasn't asking about the Alfa Romeo, I was asking about getting a B18C5 and turbocharging it. First of all, its not like the B18C5 is something you put on your credit card and pick up with a trip to Kragen's. Its an expensive motor. Second, if you're going to shell out all that money for a Type R motor, why would you turbocharge it? The engine is made for a naturally aspirated setup, and you'd be spending a lot of money on peripheral costs just so you could morph the engine into something that can have a turbo. You can't just "slap on a turbo" with a Type R engine. If you've noticed, not many of the drag racers race with Type R engines either; the reason is because it is expensive and they can't afford to buy a new one everytime it blows. Third, why put it into a Civic Sedan instead of buying the Type R itself?

All though you bring up many good points James, this is the one i can agree with most....when you buy a Type-R, you not only get a great engine, but the car is also a wet dream in the corners, and can also brake with the best of them...its just a perfectly balanced car(maybe not perfect, but damn close)!

This has already been discussed earlier in this thread...no exhaust on this application=good top end,but loss of bottom end torque.
