Ok, a couple things bothered me tonight as I was leaving the club where I was DJing. Here's the story:
Close to the end as I was finishing up, some drunk shit was yelling crap but I ignored it. Everyone left, I packed up and headed out front to my car. After loading up my car the drunk idiot from earlier decides to lean on my car so I can't leave. I get out of the car and tell him to move and him and his 3 friends get up in my face. Well screw that, so I wave to the 4 cops across the street and yell for them to come over. Problem number 1, THEY LOOK AT ME AND WALK THE **** AWAY!!!!! What is that shit. So now said drunk people are talking shit to me even more so I try the cell phone, dial 911. Problem number 2, I GET PUT ON HOLD INDEFINITELY!!! The assholes threaten to know me out and other shit and meanwhile spit on my freshly washed car and eventually walk away. I run back in the club pissed off, grab some wet and some dry napkins to clean my car and go back outside. Finally the bouncers from the club across the street got the cops attention and they come back. We all explained what happened and the cops say they are gonna go look for them. They leave around the corner, I don't know whether they actually go and look for them or not.
Ok, call me a ***** or whatever, but I left immature fighting and stuff long ago, especially with a family to support I can't afford to get hurt or in trouble. But what really bothers me is that the cops walked away from a volatile situation, and then I coulnd't even reach a damned 9-1-1 operator.
Thanks but I'm going to be looking into getting a personal handgun and a license to carry a consealed weapon. If I can't count on the police to protect me and my family I guess I better take it into my own hands.

Those cops across the street may have been working off-duty (read:moonlighting) for the club across the street. You say you were packing up for close and they were probably on their way home. To them you may have been a report they did'nt want to write. ( sorta like when the mall wont let people in after 8:45 so they can go home) They may have just ignored you the first time and probably told you they'd look for the BG's ( bad guys ) so you'd shut up. Not being facetious , just showing you the inside of the mind of cops. Or maybe they were just busy. As far as 911 they take a hell of a lot of calls and I can imagine that on a saturday night if you are'nt being murdered right then you can wait. I would'nt suggest a gun if you are'nt familiar with them or with your own resolve to use it.However might I suggest you buy a bag for your nights out in which you keep a softball glove two dirty balls and a Louisville slugger ( in case you just wanna break some balls outside the club with freinds ). In the words of a Marine General " Hit hard ,hit fast and keep on hittin."

You know, I bet you're right.
As far as guns, I grew up with them until 7th grade and then moved to the city and haven't fired/held one since. Probably get a nice 9mm and start going to the range every couple of weeks. Keep it locked up and safe at home and then look ito getting a license to carry it.

Please remember that cops are people too. The majority are great and decent people. There are a few who are better than most and then there is always that 10%. Even though I'm pro gun , they are'nt for everyone. Be careful.

Ok, before everything gets crazy about this, let me explain something. My biggest concern is that even if something terrible was happening, 911 is worthless. Sorry but if shit happens and my family is in danger I'm not gonna rely on the police. I'm not worried about taking a beating, I've been there and done that. My concern is if my family was going to be receiving the beating/raping and in the minute I could do something I can either call 911 or pull a gun.

In regards to 911 via the cell phone. I've been witness to bad accidents, dreunk driving, and other shit and have been put on hold every time for no less than 5 minutes, usually more like 10-15.

and remember California is one of those pinko states were an intruder has to actually be threatening you before you can shoot them. The fact that the are in your house doesn't cut it.

Dewd,
If you are in California there is no way in hell you are getting a permit! No way. Pansy-ass state.
And do not, under *any* circumstances carry a weapon in your car without permit! Trust me here.... I learned the hard way, HERE in this shithole state.

Actually, if you go to quincy (whatever county that is) and live there for two years, then file for a permit with two long time residents in good standing vouching for you, you can get a permit. I need to look into the laws in Shasta County pretty soon
RE:preludemark....haha...good...let the cops gives them tickets fer side markers. Less chances of the racers getting tickets.
RE:EdwardETraylorIII...it's actually not as hard as you think. It has yes gotten very hard...but you could practically get a gun the same day you bought it a couple of years ago. I don't know if the law is any different from having a hand gun or a shot gun. It onlt took me about 2 1/2 weeks to get my shotgun and all the paperwork and shite, but it might be different for a hand gun I'm not sure. oh yeah...I'm only 20. So if you ahve to pacience (sp) to wait about 3 weeks then it's really easy to get a gun still.

I understand wanting to be safe and having a family to worry about, but don't you think carrying a concealed gun would just put you in more danger? Why not get into martial arts or boxing of some sort, and handle the situation that way, which might lower the chance of you taking someones life or perhaps someone taking yours for mistaking you for the "bad guy with the gun."

One of the things about getting a carry permit is you have to try to flee any dangerous situation before you can draw. Basically you have to be cornered with no way out.
California is awful- for some reason, a person entering your home while you are sleeping isn't grounds enough to repond with deadly force.

here in TX there are signs all over the retail stores that say firearms not permited in the store. kind of strange.
i have seen many reports of people being car jacked or attempted and the person trying to take the car ends up getting shot(by the car owner) which is too bad=P. not a good thing in the public but it seems the law works well here...at least that one anyway.
PC
That's down south, State of Louisiana, or Alabama you can shoot the car jacker. In Texas I belive you can shoot the intruder legally.
I'm planning to move to Texas in a few years. I'm getting sick of Repulic of California.
