heres the deal. my house or a tree near my house got struck by lightning. since then its been a battle to get my internet working properly again.

i have comcast cable. it works fine as you can tell by this post.

the problem is when i plug my computer into a router it doesnt work, i can plug it into the modem with the same cable but when it is plugged into the router it does not work. i have tried everything using process of elimination and im stuck.

it works when, computer is plugged into modem.

does not work when, computer is plugged into wireless router, then wireless router is plugged into modem. wireless connection is fine but not on my computer.

then i decided it might be the router. i got a different router, plugged my computer into the new router, then into the modem. to verify this new router worked i plugged the wirless router into the new router and the wireless connection works.

im stumped any ideas?

Well have you tried resetting the router? It doesn't sound like the hardware is necessarily bad, simply that your config settings might have gotten messed up.

My wireless router will mysteriously stop working sometimes and I'll have to go back and reinstall the software. First, plug the router back in and go into the settings via IE and 192.168.0.1. Play around with it there and see if maybe the login info just got defaulted. Past that I really have nothin.

restart router, update firmware . try again.

hmm.... ive had similar problems with my dell router. try resetting first, then check if the connection is up. make sure the software is installed and running, then go to the command prompt (usually in accesories) and type in ipconfig. find your default gateway adress, go to internet explorer, and type it in. make sure the login info is right, and go from there. worked for me, hope it works for you. if it doesnt, let me know and ill try to help you out.
