okay guys, i've been pissed all day because of this problem. last night i got into a stoplight confrontation and when i got back to my apt, my truck dieseled, and that's not good at all. i just ignored it because i figured it was from pushing the pedal to the floor, but when i went to run some errands today it did it more. the only time it didn't do this was the first time i shut the engine off after warming it up. i also noticed that the idle was very low, and made me stall twice. anyway, this has to be the timing right? i'd like to hear what you guys think, cause this shit is embarrassing when smoke pours out from under the hood when i turn the engine off. late.

You might have a loose timing chain belt how many miles...there is a couple quick things that you can take into concideration...one is over advancing the timing on a vehicle..and the ignition is running in a loop this happens alot when people install MSD. Just a couple thoughts some info on the truck would help also

until u can figure it out put it in reverse and shut it off and it wont do it. My moms old station wagon would do it for 10 minutes sometimes if u didnt put it in reverse to stop the engine from going. (NOTE: This isnt some back water trick I remember reading this in a magazine tech article) so it wont screw up anything. My guess would be the timing chain, it could have just stretched enough to start doing it.

has about 105K miles on it, which isn't that bad, but maybe the timing chain has stretched. what about the air/fuel ratio?...i don't think it is that though because i try not to ever mess with the settings on the carb(2BBL Carter right now). it can't be the ignition cause i bought all new components a year and a half ago. oh, and another thought i had was maybe the distributor moved around on me and caused the timing to go to hell? well, any more thoughts are appreciated. late.

When I first installed my cammed up motor in my mustang, I had the stock torque converter in it, so I had to turn the idle up really high in order to keep it from stalling when it was in gear, since it was idling so high, when I would shut it off, it was diesel on for a little bit, it did this everytime up until I changed the torque converter which let me keep the idle lower where it was supposed to be. This solved my problem. I know that dieseling can be caused by both the timing and the carb settings. My guess with your situation is timing because you never messed with the carb in the first place. Try re-timing it, because the dist. could have loosened and turned a little on you. Happened to my friend once...

spending about an hour going through the wiring an stuff trying to time this bastard, i loosened up the distributor and played with it a little and i guess that was the problem. if i turned it one way, the engine idled really high, and the other way had the opposite effect, but i finally got it timed where i wanted it. it would have been a lot easier with an extra hand, but oh well. hopefully it lasts through tonights abuse!:) late.

best way to time it is with a timing light...Doing it by ear worked well on carberated motors, but fuel injected is a diffrent story
