I need some help guys. my brother just replaced his clutch cable on his '87 lx. it will not move. the clutch is very stiff and will not completely engage. can anyone help? tell what cause this, is this common? how do i fix it?
Just the cable? Did he reset the adjuster? You sure it was abd cable and not a bent quadrent? Id yank the stock one and use an aftermarket piece. Steeda makes one of the best replacements out there

Oh boy, my friend with a 2000 GT just put in clutch #3 at 90K miles that had clutch cable problems.
Brief history:
He bought it used, put a fogger on it and soon trashed the original clutch. He put in some aftermarket clutch and an aftermarket adjustable cable. We think his mistake was this: he lubed the new adj cable with WD-40.
Somewhere recently I read that WD-40 is not a good lubricant at all, especially at high surface loads. He recently had to replace that new clutch at only 10k miles, it was slipping terribly. What was happening was the cable was dragging in the housing so much, it wasn't releasing the clutch soon enough. He experienced significant clutch slippage as he released the clutch and simultaneously squeezed. That burned out clutch #2 in short order.
The pp showed hard spots and the fingers were so hot the deposits were burned clean off, the disc hub was blued, and the tob largely disintegrated. Needless to say, the flywheel had to be cut.
We forced lithium grease through the cable housing and clocked it 180 degrees to give the cable a fresh path where it makes the u-turn. After a couple of adjustments, he's back to squeezing it and reports all problems have disappeared.
You didn't mention any history so I don't know if any of this is relevant. I'd lay the 2 cables side by side. I'll guess the replacement cable has less cable sticking out of the housing ends than the original.

thanks for the help guys, but it turns out the adjuster was not "adjusted" correctly.
