Cobra's, Saleen's, & Lightning's...

ok, first of all, if any of you have this months Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, turn to page 44-45... I guess it's just page 45 but there's no page number cause it's an ad...

Anyways, you should be looking at the Downs Ford Dealership ad, and they have the new Mustang Cobra, the new Saleen's (i'm not sure which one), and the Lightning. Now first of all, i'm gonna start by bitching about the lighting, cause i saw a guy that had one today, and it was not that fast. i lied to him and told him "damn that's fast", but if i was just saying that so he wouldn't go home & cry. I really didn't feel like it could get 0-60 in 5.8, so if anyone can tell me why his was slow (like maybe he just got the SVT badges for it and got a new hood), i'd be happy to listen.

Second thing i want to know, whats cooler in your opinion(s), the Cobra or the saleen (s-281?) i'm big on both, but i can't decide on my own (hehe) which one is better.

and in their ad, is all that information correct? i'll type up what they have on each...

Cobra
320 hp
0-60 in 5.4

Saleen (i'm not sure which one it is)
375 hp
0-60 in 5.4


what confused me enough to write up this whole big post is that the cobra has 55 less hp, but still makes the same 0-60? i thought the saleen would be able to tear up that cobra a bit?

probably has to do with the difference in 0-60 times.

That guy probably didn't know how to drive his Lightning. I've seen a few new Lightnings go mid 13's stock, and a few have been known to crack off low 13's stock. It's all in the driver.

the saleens are definately nicer than the cobra. the only difference in the styling of the cobra and the regular GT is the front facia. and the 2001 lightning is super fast. they were tested by Road & Track and are faster than the mustang Cobra.

the 2001 lighting is that fastes truck ever made. Top 385 hhp on a truck and i will be impressed until then shut up

I am pretty sure that they have a higher top speed but, they may not be quicker in the quarter. I think that the GMC Motorsports Cyclone still holds a landspeed record or two. That was a badass truck!

BTW, I HATE the Altezza's on the new Lighting, BAD IDEA FORD!!!

The 0-60 time of the saleen is a supercharged one. That swhy its fater. If you take a stock cobra vs a non-supercharged saleen, the cobra will win. the 01 cobra are running 13.5's and the 01 saleens are running 14.0

Im not a huge mustang buff but I thought that all the new body style saleens 281's and 351's were supercharged. If so that 281 saleen would beat a cobra. It would be really easy to get more power out of the 281 also.
The syclone was an awd turbo. It was a mid 4 second truck 0-60 but im pretty sure it ran a 14.5 in the quarter. So the lightning would beat it once they got going.

the lightnings come with a 4 spd manual transmission..i don't think any other f150's do...thas how u can tell....

The Lightning is only availible with the 4 speed automatic. If it were a manual, it would be a bit quicker.
