Is my turbo bad?

I bought a used turbo today and found oil when i took off my manifold. Does that mean my turbo is leaking oil? Also when i pull on the shaft it moves up and down slightly, does that mean it is going bad? What should i look for to see if anythong is wrong with my turbo?

depends really. shaft play is normal as long as the blades dont hit the housing then you're good there. if the mtoor was blowin oil it could cause oil to reside in the manifold or if the previous owner blew their motor that could cause oil/fluid inside the manifold also. only way to really find out is to get it tested at a turbo rebuild place. but chances are 90% of the time its got some kinda small leak of some sort.
