just wondering whats the fastest car in the world? the fastest production car? is it the McLauren F1? and whats the fastest race car i mean it doesn't matter what kind of face drag, it could be NASCAR, Drag, Top fuel whatevers and whats the 1320 time?

It depends what you mean by fastest. Quick, or top speed?
I think the highest top speed "production" vehicle if you consider it "production" (I don't but major publications do) is by one of those Corvette tuners ... I don't think it's Callaway, but it's based on the C5 and came out recently. It's a TT V-8. I think the top speed is 232. Someone probably knows what it is.
As far as a "race" car that's not street legal used for competition, the high speed record is 766.6 mph set by a British jet powered car (Thrust SSC) in 1997. As far as 1/4 mile times go for that puppy, forget about it. A 4-year old on a tricycle could beat it 1/4 mile from a dead stop. Maybe that's an exaggeration, but I've seen one of the vehicles in that class race a Viper GTS and the Viper destroyed it up to around 180 or so, when like 5 minutes later the vehicle shot past it.

Well, if you mean a production car as in a car that was made by a manufacturer, not modified by an aftermarket company as in Callaway's case, I'd have to say it's the McLaren F1. However, are you talking in terms of top speed or 1/4 time?
In terms of top speed. . . .
According to McLaren, their F1 was supposed to hit 236MPH, but when Road & Track tested it with Mario Andretti at the wheel, he complained it only hit 212MPH and felt as though it could go another gear. The Jaguar XJ220 was supposed to hit 220MPH but was only able to reach 213MPH in factory tests. Furthermore, the Vector W8 TwinTurbo was claimed to reach a top speed of 218MPH, but if you've ever seen that Lamborghini Countach wannabe, you wouldn't be surprised the fastest it could ever go was 208MPH. That thing is bad aerodynamics on wheels.
The Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 reaches a top speed of 205MPH while the Ferrari F50 reaches 202MPH. The Porsche 996 Turbo is somewhere in the 190+ range, and the Acura NSX, as tested by Road & Track, has a top speed of 168MPH. Lastly, the '93 Mazda RX-7, according to Road & Track, too, manages 158MPH.
I'm just bored, which is why I wrote all this shit. I don't even remember what my point was, haha.

well i guess i was asking about quarter mile time, so those top fuel cars can run the quarter mile in 3 seconds? damn.. anyways i don't think the A-Team van is that fast, indestructible maybe but fast? nah, i think Kit from night rider can spank him

Production car:
Top Speed: McLaren F1 LM, it hits like almost 230 in some video I have.
1/4th Mile: No clue on this one sorry.
Modded car:
Top Speed: There are actually 2, The Blitz Skyline AutoBahn Project witch it an impressive 348kph on the autobahn. The other car was the Lingenfelter 650R TT C5 Corvette witch hit like 232 on a 7 mile oval track.
1/4th: again no idea.
Of course you have cars that are built for speed liek F1 Indy cars and the top fule 3 second cars.

man! mclaren f1's arent that fast.....I took one out in the twisties doing a hella tite drift. My Viper was unbeatable.

Top Fuelers haven't run a 3 second pass. The last time I checked the record for ET was held by Gary Scelzi with a 4.480, and the Top speed record was held by tony Schumacher with a 326.91mph pass. Of course this could have changed in the last few months.

According to Road & Track, the McLaren F1 does the 1/4 in 11.6 seconds and only does the skidpad at .86G. That's not too good considering the acceleration this car can do. Supposedly, the McLaren has specially developed fans and scoops that suck out air from underneath the car to help make it stick to the ground more. It also has self-lowering suspension that lowers the car at certain speeds, not to mention its speed-activated spoiler. Maybe it handles better near its top speed, not driving around a circle.
Damn, that's ass on a skidpad. But then again, it's just a skidpad. I don't really care too much for the car anyways ... but I do envy it in one way -- it carries more people than my car!

The Mclaren F1 is the fastest street legal car, but the Lambogini Diablo 6.0 is the fastest production car. It's "slower" than the McLaren but the McLaren isn't produced anymore. So that means the Diablo takes that spot

Yeah I had that car and driver magazine too where they had the viper, mustang, vette, ferrari, Mclaren F1 and all those other cars. That was a great issue.

You guys should read on the Hennessey Viper that he just finished creating, 830HP at 10s in the 1/4 mile and it hits 200mph in aprrox. 1 mile.
He used Twin Turbos this time to hit a faster 1/4 mile.
