you can gut the cat if your strapped for cash and want to shoot more smog or you can get a high flow cat like one from RANDOM

According to Andre (NSXboy), hi-flow cats aren't a good performance mod. Don't ask me why, but that's what he said, and he's a track boy so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. As for pricing, I don't know, $200 maybe?

Cats on imports are before a "cat-back" exhaust system.
I have a Random Technology High Flow cat on my car and a number of things about cats on my website...
http://schel.streetracing.org/exhaust
I know Random has the best reputation and it will continue to free up the flow of your car. This will allow it to breathe better. I had had a gutted can and that was making me looser power vs when I put in the Random... so take it however you desire... but I would get a Random Tech over any other brand adn the price depends on the size... mine was $215 I think... but they range from $175-$350 and are CARB legal. :D

agreed...random is good stuff..
they run anywhere from 200-250 depending on your car.
Basically if you run a high flow cat/straight pipe on a weenie NA car...you lose low end power...but gain some on the top end.... FI cars gain nicely from str8/hf cats.
NA cars with good power production will see good gains as well as you're helping the scavenging flow.
I am uncertain why Andre doesn't like hf cats.

Wassup Trust. Yeah, I don't know why Andre hates cats. Maybe he got scratched by one when he was young, :D. HAHAHAHA, get it? Man, what a stupid joke.
Seriously, I don't think I'd really spend my money on a hi-flow cat. It might be the LAST thing I'd do to my car, but there are probably better things you could buy for the same amount of money, power-makers or otherwise.

daniel:
you are correct sir..for your applications you can buy a lot better bang/buck mods

its because "high flow" cats arent really better flowing than a regular cat. Trust me.

actually...it depends on application and on which type you get.
for my FI setup....i took off my stock cat for a random tech HIGH FLOW.
if you've ever gutted a stock gsr cat...u'll see that it's far more restrictive than the random tech. My random tech consists of a large diameter pipe...2 bungs....and a really large-holed netting on both sides of the cat...it's basically a straight pipe that doesn't throw codes.
