Got New Shoes?
Here are my stock wheels. I have been debating for a long time to powder coat my rims to a new color. The thing is I can't have my car down for a week to do the job. I decided I'll try to paint them to see how they'll look. Eventually I will get around to doing it professionally.

Some of the supplies you will need. Gloves, Mask, Vaseline, Tape, Sand Paper, Primer, and of course Paint.
There are also two items not pictured here but are needed. Cardboard so you can paint your wheels on them and 3x5 Index Cards.

It's probably best if you remove the tire. A before picture.

It's a good idea to sand off the clear coat. Be sure to wear your mask and use a fine grit sand paper. Sand it evenly.

Next apply Vaseline to the sidewalls. Be sure not to get any on your rims, as the paint won't stick.

Put down some cardboard or plastic so that you don't paint the ground. Also add the index cards so that the tire separates from the rim.
The next step is to primer the rim. Apply the primer evenly and let it dry.

Once the primer has dried the rim is now ready to be painted. Be sure to spray evenly on the rim. You usually use sweeping motions from left to right. Start spraying a few inches before the target area. Most likely you will have to use many coats. Be sure to let these dry for a few hours before putting them on the vehicle.

Once the rims are dried, just remove the index cards, wipe the tires off with a cloth and install.
If you have some drips or runs, you could take some 1600+ sand paper and water and "gently" sand the rims.

Now you car has a new look. I like this color and when the wheels start to get scratched or messed up, I will have them professionally powder coated. Until them enjoy!
