i just got my red valve cover today and a friend told me that when i switch it i need to replace the gasket. is this true? and why? thanks
Yes, you do need to replace a gasket. When gaskets are put on they create a seal by being tightened very tight and often the seal isn't complete until the motor heats up and the gasket is subject to heat and hot oil for the first time. Also, I'm not sure with Hondas specifically, but some gaskets also require an initial sealant to be applied with the gasket. Finally, often times when you break the seal of the gasket it is physically destroyed. Unless you want a monster oil leak, you should change your gasket.
