When start my car up in the morning (cold weather), my engine (1.8 SOHC) starts too do some weird shit.

It was never like this before

it started idling at like 1500 then dropping down 1250 then back up...then drops down too noraml 750. It seems like it isnt gettin enough fuel in its system. It hesistates then it frakin starts like "caughing" like fuel is being cut off then reaaplied? Also on the freeway when im going a steady 80, it starts jerking back and forth, doing the same thing? What happened? Im pressin 11 pounds of boost? But i run vaccumm all the time. I dont think its my turbo...what could it be?!?! let me know you turbo pros

check all your vacuum lines, espically around the throttle body. If that doesnt cure it, test your o2 sensor voltage and make sure your BOV is adjusted properly

Probably not the O2 if it's a cold start problem, as the computer should run in open loop until it's warmed up (assuming you have a stock ecu in there).

If it's doing a hiccup on the freeway when cruising (but only randomly and occasionally) it is a very good possibility that it's a problem with one of the pickups in the distributor. This problem is hard to test for (until you get a complete failure when the car just dies and wont restart).

If you happen to know someone with a spare distributor you could try swapping it out just to see if there's any change.

Mystic and whoosh thanks for your post...you know what doublewhoosh.....i think your right....I have a MSD ignition in there, but i took it out and put on a regular dist. cap.....I went and bought a new MSD box, MSD blaster 2, and the MSD dist. cap.....If what you are sayin is right (i think it is) then imma swap out that stop cap with the MSD one.....Thanks man...you probably saved me around $60.00 for a diagnostic...later

Actually my dad thinks it could be somthing else....does anyone have any other suggestions?!

If you want to check for vacuum leaks fabricate a adapter to hook your intake up to a bicycle pump. Pump it up as far as you can and see if it holds. It should drain slowly. Some leaks you won't see until there is some pressure

You can also check for vacuum leaks by spraying carburetor cleaner all over at idle. If any of it sucks in the engine will rev slightly.

I doubt this is a vacuum leak though, as cold startup and cruise are usually two entirely different situations (as far as vacuum leaks go).

So what you think it is double...I never encountered this problem, it basically hiccups on idle and when cruisin...i dont know why....what the fuck..

Well other than what I just told you I can't do much more without working on the car myself...sorry.

I had a leaky check valve that did that. You didn't say what kinda turbo kit you have.

if it had anything to do with your ignitor, your coil, distributor, or your rotor, then most likely, the car would have already died...

check your fuel system for the hiccup...you may not have enough fuel pressure. get a new fuel filter as well, it cant hurt. what kind of fuel upgrades are you running with?

BTW: Did you bore out, or stroke the motor to 1.8L?

Bored out too 2.0 resleeved too a 1.8...

the fuel system im runnin is a Stillen Fuel Press regulator....The ignition and everyting is stock believe it or not....I took out the MSD but plan too put hot wires and everything else on it.....let me know if this helped

how old is your fuel pump? who wired it? i think the reason you are experiencing the hiccup is because you are not getting enough fuel pressure. lemme guess...when you are cruising at the steady rpm and speed on the freeway, and then you go to give it gas, it hiccups right? also, when you floor it, you can feel s slight bogging hiccup right?

i think it might be a loose vaccum line cause thats what my shit ride did (hiccups)...peace

my car does the same thing. I will be at an intersection and i will take off through first gear and right around 2500 rpm I loose power and then it kicks back in. Its pretty embarrasing because it makes me look like i cant drive a clutch.I have yet to solve this problem. I know its not my ignition system. I am pretty sure It's my TPS (Throttle position Sensor). But i will eventually need to get a diagnostic. I have heard it could be a fouled up O2 sensor also. Since you have alot more exaust coming out now since you are turboed

Yeah i think imma replace that Fuel punp and whatnot, it that doesnt solve the problem, then imma be into a big debt..lol....i gotta get this shit fixed.

thanks for all your help guys

hey seriously dont spend the money on the fuel pump. IF THe pump was going bad. IT would just stop working. Just my .02

u NEED a fuel pump when ur running boost, stock pump/injector for NA usually r too small.
