What is a good car to start to modify? An easy one for beginners? I want a cool street car, thats fast, but not to fast cause I don't know hw to race and don't want to crash and break my neck. BUt, you know..fatser then average.

Also, what is best way to practice and learn to race? They got a speedway here in vegas that anyone can race at..for 10 bucks. I want to put together a car and go there and try it, but I want to know the basics of safety and handling first.

Can any of you point me to or list all the componants I need for a street racer? Yea, im that ignorant of the subject, lol.

I want to not buidl it myself, but slowly add things I need to a car, so that I can learn all these things..I dont want to go out and buy one that is already put together..this would not help me learn.

Lastly, I don't know anyone into this scene..what is best way to meet people here in vegas that are into it.

Thanks for reading this if you have

step 1: don't be a "Street racer"
step 2: realize that going fast and "looking good" are mutually exclusive

It would help if you told us what kind of cars you like, this isn't about trying to "look like a street racer", what you should be trying to do is finding a car that YOU like and then getting the most out of it. Of course if some of your ideas for cars are really bad ideas (such as non-turbo eclipses and V6 Mustangs) then we'll let you know. But it would definitely help if you bounced some ideas off us first.

Hi, thanks for the reply

first off, I want to be a street racer..maybe that isnt the correct term..I dont mean illegal street racing..I mean the races they hold that are legal at different tracks.

Second I know they are exclusive, but I don't see anythign wrogn with wanting a cool lookign car...I'd like to look into soem sort of custom uh..well I dont know see i only been at this a few days heh..the paitn job ofcourse is subjective..I just don't know what cars to even consider..which ones are good to tweak up and race..thats my first problem.

I like mustangs and cadillacs, the onyl mustangs I like are older ones, uh 65's are cool..I like 65's..is that a good year to mod up? For recent cars I like the acura..2002 model is nice and slick, or a '99 hionda civic.

I'm really not interested in a car that says " hey look at me im cool and part of the undergroudn street race scene.." I realyl do want a car with performance that i can learn and race at legal race venues..but makign it look nice is still a motivaiton aswell. I'm gonan try to make it a deadpool theme <froma comicbook> red and black..but only cause it woudl fit me and whats wrong with a little flash.

k sorry im long winded..heh

Actually one of these 3 I just listed would be badass to start with, I know caddys are probably not a good idea..onyl cause mine cost me 50 grand and I'd hate to slap a buncha after market stuff on it. Ofcourse, I don't want to pay oturageous prices on my first one I get into..so 10k or more I dotn really want to do..2002 acura probabyl run to high..dunno boitu the 99 civics, i know I can get a 65 stang for a bargin soemwhere.

FAST / CHEAP = FOX BODY MUSTANG.

Modding a Caddy (at least in the 10k price range) is more of a "look what I did" type thing.

And one more thing it's ok to breathe while you're typing... don't need you dying before you finish your paragraphs. :nono:

eh damn you people are mean

I don't like the fox bodies, only like '65s.

To streamline this thread, if I get a 65, a civic or acura, what woudl be the first thing I add to start the transformation into a race worthy vehicle?

OK you don't like fox bodies... but remember you don't exactly have a race ready budget with 99.9% of other cars on the market.

Are you able / looking forward to doing the work on this car yourself or drop it off to a shop?

well yeah, I don't want to spend a fortune, if thats what you mean..I don't want to pay 10k or more for the actual car, but I have a wider budget for the actual upgrades and modifications. Maybe a car for 4 to 6k? Then after that, whatever things cost I am willing to pay.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind doing it myself when possible, but any really technical installations i probably won't beable to do, since I don't know to much abotu cars as of yet..I hope somewhere down the line I can do it manually..btu for now mostly i will have to use outside help.

If I drop it off at a shop, I want to try to be as invovled as possible. i really want to learn about everything, and get a well rounded knowledge.

Ok, I decided to start with the '65 mustang. My dad is gettign up in his years, and he loves them as much as I do, so I hope to involve him in all this so we can spend quality time together. then he can drive it and act young and I can race the sh*t out of it haha.

So..I want to buy a stock 65 mustang, or a shell and put some major beef in it (sorry if my vinacular is off), maybe..400hp? or can I go higher?
And ofcourse I want to add lots of mods, just so I can learn bout it all. Not body mods nut performance mods..i want to try and keep the car looking as it used to..maybe toss on some cool rims for sh*ts and grins.

An clue on what i should do first? Ill probably be pickign the car up in a week or two, this is how freakign stoked I am to start all this. any buying tips would be appreciated aswell.

Shop around, dont buy the first 55 you find. Find one that is in the best condition for what you can afford. Make sure it has a good solid body, and if you plan on keeping the stock motor make sure its big enough to make you happy, IE, no 6cyl ones. Also make sure the suspension is in good shape, and that the engine/tranny are mechanically sound. 10k can buy you a nice mustang, at least here in PA.

Won't he need collector car insurance on a 65 stang or can you just get regular insurance for it? I sure as hell wouldn't drive a car like that without some good insurance...a nice restoration could make it worth something.

Have to be 25 to have collectors insurance.

There's no point in having a race worthy car if you're not a race worthy driver. I'd say get a first gen Neon RT, and start doing autox events. The car is a good all around performer in stock form, and has a large aftermarket.

You say you don't want to go out and break your neck, but you're talking about a 400hp+ classic mustang? Do you even know how much 400hp is??
If you want to do things the right way. Learn how to drive first. Then work on the car. You have to walk before you can run.
