It sure is the most popular thread is the This or That thread. :joshers:

Yeah, this or that has probably accounted for 80% of the total posts on sro for the last week or two.

I dunno, the zero tolerance thing hasnt mattered much to me, im not sure if that's the cause, but for whatever reason sro is pretty much dead.

There are more "for sale" or "need to buy" threads on here than anything remotely doing with cars anymore. I posted a streetracing thread last week, no replies, and only two "active" streetracing threads, and they are both old and are TOTALLY OFF TOPIC NOW!!! They should rename this place "Street (Parts Cause I Ain't) Racing Online". I am about to delete my bookmark for it. We need to throw out the "Zero Tolerance" and let the people who were REAL RACERS back into the site. I used to learn something new every time I logged in here, now I leave laughing over the ignorance that is now breeding on it. There used to be KNOWLEDGABLE people posting here all the time, where the hell did they all go? It's sad that they got ran off cause they decided to flame a fucker (sometimes even me) for saying something stupid. Welcome to the REAL WORLD, where people can, AND WILL, point out your shortcomings and make you feel like a total idiot. This place never had a problem with the number of new people joining and the number of people visiting the site when everyone was getting flamed, but now noone is ever on. Not much fun to hold your tongue when some guy brags about a Civic DX (HEI) beating a Z06. Grrrr!!! Please FIX THIS SITE!!

Ive been on this site for a long time and this is as dead as Ive ever seen it. I think it has a lot to do with the constant policy changes that have resulted in this new one of zero tolerance.

Its funny, people bitched when every thread was filled with flame wars, that the board was immature and people were scared to post because they were scared of getting flamed. Now that flaming is looked at negatively by the staff, people bitch that there are no wars.

As far as the "zero tolerance" goes, its been spoken, but it really hasnt been put into effect, accept to deal with a few chronic problems.

How about some ideas to improve the boards?

it just seems that members arent as connected. a few years ago i could spend hours on the boards and never read the same thread twice. maybe its just part of some cycle and it will pick up again. after that last "civil war" the board seemed to lose a lot of flavor.

I wasn't saying this site is now dead because we can't have flame wars (b/c those were a complete waste of time and space yes), but rather that trying to babysit everyone and regulate what they can and cannot say online is obsurd. A good idea derives from a good argument; not some bullshit about how diavolo can't drive cause he drove his car off a cliff; but a logical discussion on the best way to improve times, track techniques, etc.

I agree with blindarrow, the reason the boards are dying is because the fnf crowd is fading out as they "grow out of their streetracing phase," leaving this place a ghosttown.

FnF made racing a fad, it's still there, but people's interest in it is slowly wandering off. The answer is stop catering to the overplayed hype of the scene (see blindarrow post above involving bodykits, import models, etc).

The majority of flames used to begin because some kid would come on here and say "Hey, i'm 15 and love to race. I'm buying a Skyline and shipping it over from japan. My first performance mods are going to be a veilside kit, blue underglows, and a 3 bladed, aluminum spoiler..." We flamed people like this while trying to maintain the integrity of the site as a place for racing and automotive enthusiasts; not ricers and showcars.

I am disappointed that some of the questions I have asked have gone unanswered. My pattern of this site is as follows:
General Chat, Anything Goes, Newbie Section, Sport Compact, Norcal>Sacramento thread, Muscle Car Chat.

If there is a question I can answer, that hasn't been answered yet, I will do my best to answer it (minus the "what car should I get?" questions). I also follow up if that person doesn't understand some basic concepts.

I miss the dedicated Tech Section. More organized, maybe a menu system for a "per application" type lookup. No one seems to be contributing to the site with good writeups or tech articles(myself included). My resources are low so I can not do any upgrades...or my upgrades(performance not APC installs) will be considered "useless" because it is a civic. I don't know, would anybody appreciate a writeup on relocating ignition wires so it will be more difficult to hot wire(that was the last thing I did, not performance, up still something)?

There was a time when somebody could do a writeup about a suspension or motor upgrade to a sport compact car without some smart ass chiming in "what's the point, you'll never be as fast as a sumtin, sumtin forty" or "sell it, and get a real car"...

I am more likely to post content to a site that can appreciate the information, rather than poke fun of the POS car they are trying to upgrade.

Just a few suggestions

Yeah I agree, I hadnt really thought about it that way, but that makes a lot of sense.

I think we should have flame free sundays, where everyone gets pissed and wants to kill each other. Then on monday's it's back to the norm. Because we all know this place is gone on weekends, which is when i am least busiest.

The site has been on the downswing for quite awhile. I dont think it is related to the FNF because I remember this site hopping well before that movie came out. I know it sounds dumb but in the old days following a weekend you could log on and read countless threads on that weekends races, busts, Monty500 bs etc. It might not have been the tech other people on here find lacking but for me it was just more of a cohesive community feel where people actually knew each other in real life. I went to the first SRO cruise and there was like 50 cars and everyone just chillin and talking cars. Maybe its just that a lot of people, including myself are or have moved out of the car phase and is just a changing of the guard so to speak.

So many things wrong with your post...where to start.

There are plenty of real racers here. Just because we don't post about it, dosen't mean we don't do it.

You have to know where to look for the smart people (i'll give you a hint: MCC).

Most of those who you say were "ran off" are here, some just under different names.

If someone posts up a bullshit post in Street Races & kills, you need not hold your tongue. If you pay atention to the forum descriptions, you would see that SR & KS is Zero-Tolerance FREE

Greg he's an idiot, just leave it at that... Anyone who thinks the "real racers" left is just fooling themselves. It's always the same people who stay (give or take one or two) that make this place what it is.

I dunno I'm not too worried about how it is here, but I think implementing a few of the changes that Colin recommended wouldn't hurt...

i think that everyone should just deal with the way the moderators run the site. when i first came here. they were the law and everyone accepted it. there was no question, if you didn't like it you'd leave. and instead of a zero tolerance, i'd say put up a disclaimer saying that there are assholes on the site and if you act like an idiot you will get owned. lets everyone have a fair warning that if they step outta line they will prolly get bitched at. there's my 2 cents

I still lay into people all the time. ZT is not whats ruined this place. It's been a long, consistant process.

yup.

and back in the day...everyone knew each other. which was good and bad...there were good times (meets, pr's, food, etc.) and then there was HELLA drama.

i guess you cant have one without the other. hehe..

That post sums up things pretty well for me. I stumbled on this site a long time ago, while toiling away in the middle east. Even though almost every post was regarding California, it still allowed me to remember the fun times I had hanging out in the Tampa "scene". I'll probably never meet any of you, and since I'm closing on a house today, I probably won't have any decent money to put into a new project for a long time. So I spend my time surfing around here and other sites, trying to live vicariously through you all. It seems however, that there aren't many articles on the night life anymore. Mostly, it is event coverage that is on the home page. Of course, I realize that this is necessary to keep the site alive, as the sport matures. But I think the original concept of SRO has been lost somewhat. I still enjoy coming here for the conversations, and will probably be here until they shut the lights off. I do hope that it leans back towards the original reason the site was started, to cover the street races and the community that goes to them.

The reason this place is dead is because most people that I know don't street race anymore. The local law enforcement agencies have done a good enough job to discourage people from going out, so no one really heads out there anymore. 90% of the San Jose "Crews" are gone or inactive or whatever you want to call it. The days of the huge pack on 880N going to GA, N. 1st, Lafayette, etc... are gone. Plain and simple. Most people, even those who weren't FnF fans, have grown out of street racing and either stopped caring about cars or have gone legit.

EDIT:

To add some more, the FnF people have come and gone but they dragged a lot of the true enthusiasts out with them. I haven't been out to the runs in like 4 years, but that is also for other personal reasons.

Very true... I havent been to runs in a long time... however i still love cars and love to drive/race. I know there are others here who feel the same way.

It's sad to see this site go, but I hardly frequent the board anymore. I've known this site and the B&Y pages. Everyone was like a "family" then, but it seems people move on. Too bad I never really took part in it. I missed out on what could have been some of my best memories.

Best of wishes to everyone.

On top of this, the economy taking a dive also forced alot of people to tighten their belts and stop spending money on their cars. I know almost all of the guys I used to race with either sold their cars or they still have their cars but all of the go-fast parts have been sold off. Many of us went legit and got into other forms of automotive racing as well. Even if the economy does make a huge turn around, I doubt you'll ever see streetracing at the level it once was back in the day.

Hopefully the board starts to get some more activity soon.

Ideas ...

5. Let's get a Tech Article section, either on the board, or on the main site. SRO itself really offers little or nothing as far as tech goes. And I mean REAL TECH ... not how to install gauges or a bodykit, more like plumbing a nitrous system, aerodynamic theories, the Otto Cycle, etc ... There's tons of resources on here & they're going away because there's nowhere to show the tech. We can blame alot of the misinformed newbs on ourselves, because like I said, SRO right now is displaying a very FnF attitude. I go to the main site, and here's the navigational list I see ...

Actually Ive always been in support of this idea since day one. The problem is very few people can actually put the tech into words. A few people have contributed... PNG i believe... Cudaman... Mickee has cover numerous events at his own expense. But as a voluntary things, you can only dedicate so much time before it collides with your personal life. But yes i would also love to see way more tech articles and a lot less FnF coverage. -Ninja

Mickee

I used to read teh FAQ section.... OOOh the greatest teacher of the world... Cudaman... i mean he explained it through muscle talk.. but i jsut tried to apply that to hondas... If Cudaman never held those "classes" i would know less than i knew now... and i still dont know shit...

I like reading tech articles becuase i can apply that to something i like... SRO for the past year or so have nothign been but a BIG classified forum... everytime i see a new post its either WTB or FS... i mean it doesnt necessarily mean its bad... its good cause you can buy parts cheaper(id hardly buy from online unless i can pick it up...plus i already have hookups on stuff anyway)

Now that I am more involve in building motors and stuff... I think i can provide some write ups now and then...
