How much effort do you think it would take to bolt a DOHC into my SOCH SL??

well if you have everything there at the time of the swap, and you take into consideration problems you may run into and all the trips you'll make to the parts store for all of the little things you forgot or broke, then you could expect to be set back 36 to 48 hours(roughly estimated) i think most of your time will get tied up in the wiring b/c that crap does get messy

However i think i will keep my slo-HC, I found a company that might be putting a turbo out for it. I have came to the conclusion that the SL was never made to go fast, but, i know it can go faster.
