a plate? are you trying to make the ports physically bigger in size? If so you usually match them to the gasket you are planning on running.

just pay the money and have it done by a professional. you can trash a head pretty easy if u don't know what your doing.

just FYI.. B16B [Civic Type R] heads are ported at the Honda factory ..they're mildly ported.. but ported nonetheless..

correct- which is why you dont port them- even the standard b16 head is damned good out of the box and a do-it-yourself-er is only going to fuck up a delicate balance- unintentionally of course, but still fuck it up- not to mention that MOST Honda heads need material added, not taken ot, of the combustion chamber, and the runners have to then be re-matched to them- thus-
DO NOT PORT ON B16 HEADS-
d16 heads are a bit easier, but still need correct balance to get them right-

incidentally, early CTR heads were non vtec and factory ported, and are rare as hell- I have one on my hatch

well i agree with you on that i guess.. i wouldn't try a DIY port job even though i do have a micrometer sitting in my garage collecting dust :hehe: ..where did you find the non-Vtec B16B head?.. what year did that come off of?.. i'm just curious about that becuz i didn't know they made CTR's without Vtec.. good info man..

does a air grinder have enough force to do iron heads?
does a air grinder have enough force to do iron heads?
Absolutely. I've done cast iron exhaust manifolds and turbo inlets with an air-powered die grinder, too.
You can get porting bits here:
