Hi ppl,
quick query about shift locking with a auto gbox...
It seems really unpredictable at the moment like i change down and sometimes it the wheels lock and some times it just slows down really quickly and i loose momentum or wheels lock, back looses grip and i put my foot down and go into power drifting....
thing is i approch the corner at the same speed and stuff but sometimes the back swings out and sometimes doesnt...
has anyone noticed that with shift lock style?
you cant shift lock with an AUTO...
just use the side break

then why does it lock then and some times not?
i dont think i will bother with shift lock as its too unreliable anyway.

Shift lock is the wrong translation.
I should be called "clutch Kick"
If you dont have a clutch well then you just can not use that technique.
Does that make sense?

well if you wanna talk JDM then don't use the term E brake.
It is Si Do~ Bareku.
Hhahahaha
This reminds me of those stupid fucking people that say shit like "i saw it on TV it must be true".
Agian is should be translated as Clutch Kick.

very true max...now that the drift bible is all main stream..its going to be crazy..

It probably depends on the road. If there is a bit more condensation or sand or something, a clutch kick would probably work... sorry, a 1D kick :wtf: However, if the road is dry and stickey, and your tires are already warm, they will catch and just slow you down like you were downshifting normaly. Try it after you already have some latteral Gs on the car, maybe that will be enough to break them loose. If not, then just stick to trailbreaking and side breaking.
Screw the drift bible... do whatever works.

the easiest way to do a clutch kick on your car would be to....
convert to a 5 speed. :P

Haha foreals dazy you need a 5 speed.
that AT you have will not take the abuse of downshifting while moving for very long,
last i checked AT were bank to get fixed.
G fish i dunno i have not been in Misawa since 2000.

CLutch kick and shift lock are 2 different things. Shift lock is downshifting without rev matching to lock up the rear. Clutck kicking is just that, putting the clutch in for a moment while on the gas to get the revs up, then releasing the clutch.

i used to shift lock drift when i didn't know how to rev match. I came into a turn very fast and downshifted very wrong. the rear end locked up and the tail started coming out. pretty scary.

BTW my car is a 1990 supra TT, its not really a good choice of drift car but i was more interested in a supra at point of purchase then getting a car that drifts well. I suppose it shouldnt be too bad because its got quite a long wheel base and has just enough power to do power over drifting(gets a bit crazy when boost really kicks in)
Converting to a 5speed i was told that it would be pretty expensive? what about maybe toughing up the auto and maybe put sequential shift in or something like that? looking at a couple of d cars in japan have sequential shifters in them.
suggestions ppls?
Thanx

TT supras can be drifting..but can you afford to replace the car?

um probly not all at once, thank god for insurance....
Im not really looking to be some hard core drift dewd, id just like to flick that tale out and slide my ass around some mountains a lil.
So what about swapping the tranny? is it expensive?

Well since you want to slide it around in the moutains i think you should refer back to jays comment.

i would keep it on the track. Where are you from? tranny swaps are expesive unless you are going to do most of the work. Its sometimes better just to sell the car and buy the manual version.

hehe yeah.....
Um track driftin would be a much better idea in my case,
Curious tho its going to cost me about $2500 to toughen up my auto box and is a manual conversion going to cost much more? what about if i bought a engine and gearbox combo for like $3500?

To tell you the truth i dont know shit about Supras haha. But i just know that its probably an expensive swap. If your serious about it i would check out some Supra forums or even ask your local shop.
