I am basically looking for a car at around the 7k range more or less. Im looking more for relibility in a car more than anything else. Im not a "racer" or anything so performance isn't my priority. This will be an upgrade from my first car which is a 1995 dodge neon.
I am thinking of the 1994 3000gt SL or the STD Hatchback model. Is that generally a reliable car? If you don't reccomend it what would be a better choice? I admit that the only reason I like the 3000gt is because it looks good. Im a sucker for good looking cars.

3000GT is one of the least reliable cars you could pick. Ya, camry's are pretty reliable, even the V6 ones. You could look at an accord, but in my opinion they're overpriced for what you get. A maxima also performs better than either of those 2 cars and is only marginally less reliable. You could also look at a Taurus Duratec, pretty reliable and quick car that will cost you very little.

Integras are pretty reliable. Eclipses are /somewhat/ reliable. The Camry is still the most reliable car listed.
Pretty much anything Toyota makes will be reliable.

Echo!!!
Don't use that kind of language in here! That word should be blocked. BTW, doesn't that new Echo Hatch look a lot like the Japanese Vitz?

Damn right...I broke my bike. I was going across a road (I guess unless you dismount your bike you're considered a motor vehicle?) and some asshole in an old ass 87ish VW Jetta ran right through the cross walk, and if I hadn't stopped he would have hit me...The problem though is how I stopped. I have the front brakes set really high so it stops in less than 5m doing 40km's, but I was standing/pedalling with my weight forward and I endo'ed it when I stopped and broke the rear derailler. It's only like 20 bucks for a new shimano one, but I'm too poor for that...i almost have enough for my car now (3 paychecks away) and I just said fuck it.

Toyota Camry. Super reliable.
Tell that to mine, it threw me 3 codes in the past month.

My moms family is from Trondheim, so we get alot of the humor, it's been years since I spoke any norsk to anyone tho ;)
And about that camry, I agree; one of my ex's had one, and that thing was always in the shop. It was a 95.

According to something I read, the 2003 Car Buying Guide from Consumers Union said the Accord gets the highest marks for reliability, but the Camry has dropped to around average. But, I have 2 friends who have mid 90's Camrys and have had no problems at all.

For 7k I'm going to recomend a 325i or is from 92+. But I'm highly biased towards BMW and all. If all you are looking for is relibality get a camry or a civic or something similiar and you'll be happy.

are you joking? bimmers are pretty unreliable, and expensive to fix when they break.
id recomment an early -mid 90's camry, or a later model buick.

I'm not sure I'd call them unreliable...actually, I AM sure that I would not.
Do they have higher costs of ownership than a Toyota? Yes.

Whatever you do, don't buy a rover, a friend of a friend (of a friend) had owned a vover for about 1 month or so, but it had only been on the road for a total of one week, it spent the rest of the time at repair shops

Thanks for the suggestions. Now I know what to look for. I actually decided to wait until summer to buy a different car so I won't deplete a large portion of my savings. At the summer I will have enough to be more comfortable and have much more than that amount ( don't like putting things on credit). The accord is a good idea. I found that it is hard to get a good deal on those though. They seem to have a high resale value and sell very closely to the blue book price. Versus a camry, integra or eclipse where you have a higher chance on finding a pretty good deal on.

1) Speaking as someone who has had a '86 325es, a '94 540i, a '97 525i, a '89 530i parked outside, I say you are wrong. Expensive to fix yes. Neccasary to fix often? No. Unless you crash it or ignore matience a BMW is a damned reliable car. Certainly there are evil ones out there (750i or any of the early 5 liters come to mind). But those are not most.
2) And you are going to reccomend a BUICK! If a BMW is unreliable I don't know what a Buick is, any buick whether its 15 years old or right off the showroom floor.
Anyway then GC, yeah an Accord is a good car and will certinaly be good to handle normal stuff. Smart choice really.

Most of the late model GM cars while their interior quality leaves a lot to be desired have very strong drive trains. My dad has a 99 Lumina with a 3.1. 230k miles runs great with the orig motor and tranny, this includes many years of abuse and some blistering 17.3 second 1/4 miles as well.
