I've decided, after I am happy with how I mod my car (when I finally get my car, lol), that I am going to put on a body kit to get it looking how I want it to look. I've seen kits made of both fiberglass and urethane. Which is better of the two when it comes to durability and/or weight.

im not positive on this but im pretty sure so ill answer. im pretty sure fiberglass can be repaired if cracked, broken, etc while urethane cant. i believe urethane is lighter though. if you live somewhere where its hilly, snows, etc go for fiberglass.

Thanks for the input. Do you have an suggestions on which kits (doesn't have to be the full kit, could be a "mix-and-match" thing) or do you know any websites with good pictures showing each kit?

Stock parts are made of ABS plastic. Polyeurothane is almost like ABS plastic, except it's harder to paint. Fiberglass these days is a lot more flexible than it used to be. Most kits are safe these days. Check out http://www.aftermarketkits.com

Alright, thanks a bunch. If anyone else has any sites with a lot of kits please post them, thanks in advance.

Why would you even waste your time posting?
Wow ... that stuff on www.aftermarketkits.com is garbage ... sorry Ryan. I hope that's not one of his ventures.
You'll find more availability of fiberglass parts. If you get a car that has a Japanese market root, you'll find that most of the actual Japanese kits (which will run you very pretty pennies) will be very sturdy glass. The crap-ass American knockoff kit market offers more urethane parts now because of the backlash it caused upon itself by offering such garbage-ass creations and knockoffs over the years ... but most of the stuff is still ugly and phoney.

Yeah, I didn't wanna say anything since he was nice enough to provide a link, but there weren't many kits at all. I have a few links and I've actually made a list of which ones I want so I don't think I need anymore links.

No.
Most factory bumpers are urethane, not abs plastic.
Urethane is stronger than fiberglass, but it's also heavier.

That's what I heard but I wasn't totally sure on that.

Just pay an extra couple of hundred's or less and have them make you one out of carbon fiber.

riiight...custom making one for you, out of carbon fiber, for only a few hundred bucks more? it would run you probably close to 1500 for a full kit, if not more.

Urethane is more forgiving than fiberglass...example black widow kit for my fiance' eclipse she has scraped and bumped parking space blocks and hit may bumps on the road that would of destroyed a fiberglass kit...and I've seen that happen as well...hit a bump...fiberglass cracks or splits in two...falls down by the wheel...gets sucked under the car...no more bumper.

Who fucking care's? It would be a lot more durable and he would get his money's worth anyway. :sad2:

CF doesn't yield very well. it'll crack just like fiber glass, although it would take more load to do so. i guess you can re-wrap a fiberglass kit with CF though... if that's your fetish =].
