Hey guys.

I finally got the 3.1 for my 95 Grand Prix rebuilt & installed. No turbo, just naturally aspired. Now I need advice for getting the engine some more hp. Everything's stock right now. I don't know too much about mechanic work right now, but am learning.

What are some cheap (maybe even free) upgrades to start with? I want to start w/ the cheapest things and work my way up. I also mostly want to focus on quick take-offs, not neccesarily top speed.

Also, I have a tendancy to brake at the last minute. I currently have a warped rotor due to this. Any tips here? Can I get a better brand of rotor or something that won't warp as quickly?

I would get the intake and 62mm Throttle body from RSMracing.com, then get a cheap mandrel-bent exhaust made by a muffler shop (should be around $250). Then get an auxilliary transmission cooler so you don't blow it up as soon. Those mods would probably be good for over 10 hp.

Brembo rotors are probably a bit more resistant to warpage, you can get them at www.tirerack.com

Cool, thanks.

Now, maybe a stupid question: How does one find out the hp on their car?

you have it dyno tested on a dynamometer at a shop with one

Cool.

Thanks for helping the newby along. :)

You happen to know of any guides for building up non-turbo American engines online? I've been pretty unsuccessful at finding any as of yet.

I'd recommend saving for the super charger that is available for that engine.

Hey, I saw a chip on Ebay that is supposed to recalibrate the fuel/air ratio for your car and give you up to 20 more hp. Are these chips really worth anything? Could they do more harm than good?

NOTHING you see on ebay that 'corrects' A/F and is $20 is worth the tme it takes for the page to load.......most of the time they're a $2 resistor in another form...

That "chip" on ebay simply makes your car stay in cold loop, which will ruin your gas millage and hurt your engine.

HeHe

$20, this had a starting bid of $4.95. :D

Figured it was a hoax, but didn't want to pass up a great deal just in case.
