Ok check it out. I was the guy that was like huh, should I get manual or automatic, and I appreciate all those who responded. I've been fighting my mom because I DIDN'T want a 98 Honda civic LX. It's an auto, and it's a sedan. I'm like all those street racers in the Dallas,Texas area are going to make fun of me for 4 doors. I looked around and it turns out, a lot of people race sedans. So I'm getting what I already have, getting a rear spoiler, getting it lowered to give it that sleek look, maybe getting some new stuff, A LOT OF THINGS I'M GOING TO DO TO THIS CAR!!!!! My grandpa will help me mod it, but they don't know what I'm going to do with it eyt, I'll buy more HP for it and make it faster and stuff, then race around. I can't wait until I am 16!!!!! Any ideas on what I should do to my honda? Please tell me, and if you have some sites that can show me how I can customize my 98 sedan honda civic, please pass this info along also.
Peace,
Grizzo with his red 1998 Honda Civic LX (The Grizzmobile)

What the hell are you talking about? That damn car was a godsend, my parents had bad credit in the past and they are working on it. The only reason we got that car 2 years ago is because my grandpa went in there and paid money, big money, down. It's a badass car to, it has hella horsepower. It can be faster and that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to be the best damn racer in Northeast Texas one day!!!!! I just need to know where to look at parts on-line, I wanna make my shit look tight. Thanks for your opinion though!!!!

no offense or anything, but i dont think (at least IMO) that the sedan lx civic, has as u say "hella horsepower".

at least u got a car of ur own at 15. shiet, my mom (single mother) had bad credit so she wasnt able to get me a car. so, i just worked and payed for a car myself. my first ride was a, hate to say it but, 91 civ hb lx, stick. never modded it, and saved my money for a used z later on, and antoher hehe (accident with the first).

sorry bout the long post but, what i'm sayin is that, i understand the short on $$$ thing, and i had the same problem. so whatever, good luck with ur shit!, peace

oh, and i do agree with TFM, that money would've been better off an a teg or hb, it would just cost too much (IMO) to get some serious power outta that thing.

Hey there man, i had a 00 civic dx auto which has the same engine as an lx auto and i just wanted to let ya know its gonna be hard to get hella horsepower from it. i believe stock form has like 106 hp.

The only way to get some serious power from that car is swap out the engine. Save up, sell the civic and get another car. If you get exaust, headers and intake, you will maybe have 125 hp which is still nothing. I think na tuning is very hard because hp cost a lot. I can spend 50 dollars get a manual boost controller and push a lot more hp.

well, since you brought the car already, dun't mod it for now, learn how to drive it good (and safe) first, on wet rainy road, dry road and on the sand etc. Learn the difference in ur stopping distances at each of those surfaces. Learn the characteristics of a FF car on slippery conditions. Remember that you cannot control the car's steering when you lose traction on ur front end, so dun't do anything stupid.

Learn to appreicate ur mod, b4 you mod.

My little Bro was bummin' after he wiped out in his 92 Prelude and my mother made him use the insurance money to pay for a 98 4 door civic (5 spd). But we've had fun building up the car and now it'll run with a Stock Si and other basic hopped up imports. It isn't by any stretch blazing fast, but we have been putting together a nice 1.6 turbo motor that is scheduled to go into the car this May. But in the meatime he still goes autocrossing and races the occasional stoplight race for fun. Just take your time and have fun with your car.

When I said hella horsepower I meant my mom could drive it faster than she is. Anyway, I will have to upgrade my civic, maybe put a new engine in it, if I can find a cheap good one. Anyway, NO I didn't tell my mom was going to race although I just now got into cars. I really don't know what I'll be running against so......I dunno. Is anyone in here from Dallas? or Garland? I'm from Garland and there is this road right by Audoban park over by La Prada estates that would be a good race. Starting from the stioplight, over th bridge with a turn, and then one more turn and end it by the stop signs. Only thing about that, cops LOVE to shoot radar there. Everytime my mom and I roll by there, there is always some cop shooting radar. I'm not downing him for that, all he is doing is his job. He has to feed his family to right? Anyway, just thought I'd write this.

Props on your new car. I suggest you first learn to drive your car first properly, learn your braking distance, get some experience driving on the freeway, learning to how cut lanes etc... After that, if you want to mod your car, I suggest engine swap would be the best. Basic mods such as, AEM intake, DC Sports Headers, and an exhaust system can help but you won't get that much hp out of it. Although these are the basic mods, it would still be cheaper to do an engine swap rather then buying all of these basic bolt ons. The Honda 1.6
liter SOHC engines are limited. Can't do much with them.

If I was you I would have gotten a 1991-93 Integra, those cost around 4 to 8 grands, and the engines still pack a punch even without V-tech. Well anyway, again props on your new car, if you have any questions, e-mail me at NaVamous@aol.com. Till then, keep racing.

Thanks for the advice and thanks for giving me the support. I'm glad there ar people concerned about safety. just the other night two cars hit each other head on whil racing. One was going about 35 and coming back to race again and the other was doing about 100, screehing and a liud sound. People stodd there about 5 seconds and then everyone scrammble for their cars. my friend told me about it, it was sad. 4 kids died. sucks sometimes

LT WHAT?

well as far as the 4 door thing goes, i beat a civic VTEC with exhaust and intake with a 4-door pontiac gran prix GT(NOT GTP). it's my freinds car and she was riding shotgun.(she's afraid to race)

and as for telling mom your streetracing. my mom always knew what i was doing, my dad was a streetracer when he was young so he used to tell her whats up.

I don't know that much about honda's, but I do know about VTEC.

I don't know why, but everytime I read one of your posts Grizzo I get a little nervous. You sound a little to anxious and eager to get in your car and go as fast as you can. I can understand that as I was like that to when I first got my liscence. The only difference is the only cars I had access to were an explorer and a ranger, both of which I still almost killed myself in :) I beleive I said this in your last post too, but I'll say it again. Please learn to drive your car well in all conditions, before you start doing up your car and racing. I don't want to see you splattered across a highway somewhere.

Congrats on your ride. Drive smart.
