I recently heard of plans to bore out a civic non-vtec D series engine from 1.6L all the way to 2.2L. After this he plans to supercharge the engine (jackson racing) and run 6psi at all times. First, I'm kind of wondering if it can even handle that big of a bore out. Wouldn't the cylinder walls be a lot thinner, especially if he plans on running boost? Just wanted some clarification, thats.

He'll be boring out 50% of the original displacement. Somehow i highly doubt that's a. possible b. very smart.

why would he bore out a 1.6 to 2.2 if he can just swap in an h22 no problem?

I know nothing about Honda motors, but it's far more likely he's doing a mild overbore and building a stroker motor than trying to achieve a .6L gain through overbore. I can't imagine that would be possible.

I googled "1.6L Honda bore" and came up with a "D16A6 1.6L SOHC NON VTEC" having a bore of 2.953 inches and a stroke of 3.543 inches.

Bore diameter x bore diameter x .7854 x stroke length x number of cylinders = displacement

Stock displacement is 97.06 cubic inches, or just shy of 1.6L.

2.2L is roughly 134 and a quarter cubic inches.

Working backward through that formula, we get a needed bore of 3.47 inches with the stock stroke.

For reference, standard overbores are .010 inch, .030 inch, .040 inch, etc. That right there is a .517 inch overbore.

You're making the bores HALF AN INCH larger. Not happening, plain and simple.

Doing a stroker motor I can see. But it's not just a bored motor, that's for sure.

Oh, and six psi on a Eaton blower is nothing...if a (relatively) mild stroker motor can't handle that, Honda can't build durable engines.
