How much different are the engines of the turbo supras and the non-turbo supras? I might have a chance soon to buy a non-turbo supra and i want to know how much different they are and the price it would be to either buy a turbo engine or just replace the internals. I figure alot of the internals are different but i want to know approximately the cost it would be to accomodat the non-turbo engien for a turbo. Maybe you could give me a site to go to or sumthing too to find out alot about Supras. Thanks.
i have seen people add turbo on a few of these and they go ok. they are heavy though. once you get a turbo motor making some power they can be fun. you have all the factory turbo parts there so you dont have to fab much. i have a friend who did this awhile back and he did ok. he blew a head gasket pretty early on though so be prepared. you really have to watch the ign. timing. too much and it will start detonating. for forced induction you really dont want much more than 20 degrees max advance. some guys will push it and go like 20-22 degreees but i wouldnt wihtout a good standalone. stock NA timing may goto as much as 35 degrees max advance and you will have major problems like that. i think the j&s safeguard is a good way to control this as it has a built in retard under boost up to 2 degrees and also has a knock sensor just in case. not cheap but surely cheaper than a new motor. i dunno 7mges are common and dirt cheap anymore though.
i really dont like the supra forums as some of the guys really have big heads there but its your best source of info. www.supraforums.com . from what i hear dusty out at mvp motorsports really does well with these cars as well. they host the supraforums. if not dusty then someone at mvp should be able to help you. they have a nice shop out there. there is mvp and another shop i forgot the name now but they work on most of the local hott supras and there are quite a few here.

there is no comparison
it's cheaper to sell your NA and buy a TT than to try to convert an NA to a TT.
he doesnt want a turbo turbo he wants a turbo. when my buddy did his the most expensive part was the downpipe and it was $300. he did the whole setup for like $500 i think including the IC turbo and mani etc etc.
it really depends on how you approach all of this. why spend $3k+ on a new car when you have a perfectly good one now?
in the long run you will spend alot of cash on a turbo car because i dont know of anyone who just bolts a turbo on and leaves it alone. it will cost money in the long run wether you start with a stock turbo car or an NA and convert it.
we have done plenty of NA--> turbo swaps in mr2s and it can go either way. depends on what things cost. once a car is setup for turbo wether factory or not it will drive the same as the turbo car was originally. some even go better depending on what you use.

you want the injectors from the turbo model also. the non turbo 7M had 370cc. Turbos came with 440cc peak & hold injectors, Im not sure but the 370's were probable saturated and you really aught to get peak & holds for custom turbo projects. I got a pair of 7MGTE 440's im going to throw on my 1.3 liter.
my buddy used rx7 turbo II ijectors. they seemed to work ok.

you gotta be careful with the years, some are low impitance and some are high, i know for my car i need 550's from the early turbo II's.
