what year would most likely be the best year to have or which year may become a collecters item?

the 1995 US version, or find an importer and have them import you a 1998-1999 if you can find one. Otherwise a 1995 MR2 Turbo is the rarest of all MR2's in the US. They usually go for $12000 to $15000+ and are hard to find. Check X Cars and the MR2 Forum. 1994 Turbos would be your next step down for a Collectors Item/Performance. Make sure you get a Turbo Model. If you can find a 98+ in Japan go for that, they had body revisions that year. In 1994+ MR2's got bigger Turbos (CT20B) as well as many other minor engine mods including Shimless Underbuckets, TVIS Eliminated. They increased from 200 HP to 245 HP. The stock Boost was increased from 10 PSI to 13 PSI and boost cut level was raised from 12 PSI to 18 PSI.

I think the AW11 supercharge and 95 Turbo will be classics.

What year/years did they have the AW11 supercharged? and whats the diffence between the first generation coup and supercharged? a supercharger and a sticker on the side of the car that says supercharged?

Ya the 89 S/C's were the cream of the crop for first gens, 1995's for second gens, as for the 3rd gen N/A's:squintfaw I don't like 3rd gens, for a few reasons.
1. Naturally Aspirited Stock
2. They resemble wannabe porsche's from the front
3. 2nd Gens have more/better aftermarket

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a 98 engine? instead of bringing the whole car over?

98's not only had different engines, but differen't wings which are very hard to find and when you do, it still costs close to a grand just for the damn wing, they also had solid molding on the front fenders instead of turn signals, these are also hard to findand a couple hundred just for those, then they charge ya $3k just for a 3rd gen motor, ecu, tranny. Plus how many people do ya know with a TRUE 96+ MR2 in the US? I don't know of any.

brand new the 98 wings are 650, replicas go for around 350, solid side mouldings are very common and go for about 80 per pair, no one has a true 96+ mr2 in the us because you cannot get it registered as a street legal car due to the fact that there are no emissions euqipment present such as an egr.

i dont know if youre referring to the japanese 94+ mr2's but the ones in the us still used the ct26 turbo which is rated from the factory at 200hp, the engines are an upgrade from the 91-92 turbo model engines with a higher flowing head, 9 bolt versus the 7 bolt exhaust manifold and other minor upgrades, if youre looking for an mr2 i suggest you check out www.board.mr2faq.com great site with lots of info

I've seen the 98 wings prices, you're "purchase price" is correct, then paint it and shipping, I've never checked at a dealership, I've never seen replica's (not saying they aren't out there, just haven't seen any, could you post a link to a replica?) The side moldings I've seen range from $125+S&H (once again hook me up with a link or tell me wehre to find them at $80, I'd appreciate it) which for some reason everyone wants to charge $25 shipping for two lil' pieces of trim, so my bad not a couple hundred, but $150, still pretty steep for 2 pieces of 4" long molding don't ya think? Ok so they aren't "Street legal" with all the paper work, but still, how many imported right hand drive 96+ MR2's have you seen? And yes I was referring to JDM 3S's since he said
Wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a 98 engine? instead of bringing the whole car over?
And since he will need the ECU as well as the motor, you might as well just get a rear clip and get a tranny too right? We all know rear clips aren't cheap and to get one with a Gen3 motor it will be tough to find unless you know the right people.
Yes I am looking for another MR2, but I have been a member of the mr2 forums for quite a while something close to a year I believe, even though I didn't really go on there for about 6 months out of the past year cuz our comp. got all messed up in March, then I moved and didn't have internet hooked up throughout the summer until about August I started going in there again.
