Im more than happy with Athlons; I'd definently use them over Intel.

I'd get one if there was software to support the 64 bit instructions.. otherwise just wait, it'll get cheaper.

There is software to support it...at least the OS...Windows XP has a 64bit version. Al I can say is, unless you have a server or you have the latest 64 bit AutoCAD, etc then the processor will do you no good. You will have to have 64bit OS and 64 bit applications to get the power out of it...

doesn't look like the athlon 64 version of XP has been released yet, correct me if I'm wrong.
Even if theres no Windows for a little while, I'll be getting an Athlon 64 on a btx mobo with serial ATA and whatever the flavor of the month video card is.. but i'll be running linux on it.

64-bit software in general will run slightly slower than 32-bit all else being equal. This is because having 64-bits there is that much more memory that can and will be accessed from time to time. It isnt a huge difference, but it may be enough that unless you need 64-bit then it wouldnt be worth it. Actually, for my company it can make the difference between winning or losing a benchmark.

i think there are only good right now for bragging rights. They do have good FPS increase, but I would wait for next year when Microsoft releases a 64bit upgrade for their OS's. If you need it right now go on over to www.ibuypower.com they bring out nice computers for a great deal. GL.

is this the fx-51 that your talkin about? I don't think it is worth it. Wait til spring when more apps will support the 64 bit processor and the price of it will go down considerably. Right now isn't at about $700?

well from all the information i get from friends(some IT/3D Graphics Pro) and from web..
the CPU itself is lighting fast...but it will need more software support to optimize its performance.. will see in 6 months.. when theres enough support i might consider an upgrade
my p4 2.53(533)showing its age already..:O

intel wont jump on the 64bit bandwagon yet. their answer to amd's 64bit chip is the p4 EE.
yea i think the 64chip if for bragging rights only cuz even the new 64bit xp verson is not much difference, there is not a whole lot of stuff that makes it better.

as I said earlier I wouldn't waste the money on the 64 bit. You can get a P4 3.06 with hyperthreading that doubles your speed anyway, for probably $300 less.
