you can rent those at any industrial equiptment rental place.. there's some on Santa Clara St.. i think it's called A1 tool rental or something.. close to Jackson.. but you don't really need it if you're doing a Civic.. all you need to do is have a safe place for the cup to kick off.. here's what you do.. take the whole shock assembly out of the car.. then take a long allen wrench and a long handled box end wrench to unscrew the top bolt on the shock assembly.. lay the shock down on it's side on the lawn or somewhere that you can find the parts that will come off ..make sure the top of the shock/strut is facing AWAY from you.. then.. slowly turn the box end wrench by tapping it with a rubber mallet while holding down the allen wrench with either a pair of pliers or vice grips.. just turn the top bolt this way until the assembly comes apart.. just make sure no one is infront of the cap.. i used a rubber blanket to catch the parts and absorb the shock of the spring releasing.. that's the dangerous part..putting it back together should be simple.. since the new springs are shorter than your stock ones.. just reverse how you took them apart and reinstall them to your car..
