somehow he got out of the car to take a pic, and the car raced by itself automatically,... Honda has finally made the car that needs no driver...

I was at VIR for a NASA event last march and a guy running the One Lap of America was there testing his new twin turbo C5. So in my run group we've got 3 Vipers, two with wings, one of em on slicks. And this freaking monster corvette. And I'm there in my full race 944 turbo. Needless to say, I was waiting for these guys to just walk away from me. If any of you have driven VIR, the backside straight after the Oak Tree turn is about a mile and a quarter long. Top speed 150+. Just freaking fast.

So we go out for the first session and I'm dicing with the two vipers (other guy couldn't drive for shit) having a blast. Never saw the vette. After the session one of the viper guys comes over and starts staring at my car. Wants to know how much boost the car is running. Totally pissed him off when I told him it was running stock boost (races in a stock porsche club class, no engine mods allowed). Didn't mention the full race suspension though.

Second session out and I'm right behind this vette. Warm up lap I right behind the vette with one of the vipers behind me. Then coming down the front straight as they throw the green to open the track up, this guy hits the gas. We hear his turbo spool and good-bye. I got a good jump on him but he walked away from me and one of the vipers like we had hit the brakes hard. Was awesome. Sad thing is we caught the guy in the esses on the back side of the track and went by him like he wasn't there. Guy just couldn't drive at all. Pretty sad, a car that fast and a no talent driver. But good lord could that car accelerate.

Thats a got damn shame!well we all have to begin somewhere
none of us drove out of our mothers!
I know when I heard that turbo spool up with the engine I had to check myself to make sure I didnt bust one, hehe
I was right behind it as it gracefuly pulled off,two of my friends were in their integras.I had carnigans pumping
(opening theme from grand turismo)and maaaaaannnn
I felt like I was in the video game itself!
The vette and the supra could go but so fast cause the light was coming up,but the street we were on was a three lane non resident area.that was one of the best street races
I've ever been in.

Brian: You have two of my favorite cars. I just purchase a 1989 944 Turbo and have a few performance parts to throw on. I bought the Bursch cat-bypass, Autothority Stage 2 chips and Lindsey Boost Enhancer. So far the car has been a lot of fun to drive - other than the difficulty getting a good launch from a standing start. I actually bought the car with full intentions of trading it off on a NSX because I have been a HUGE fan of the car ever since it was introduced. I have a room full of videos, pics and articles on the NSX. I finally test drove an NSX not that long ago and man was I dissapointed. My 944 Turbo feels like it's quicker and I even liked the seating position better in the 944. I found that in the NSX I felt like I was sitting up high whereas in the 944 Turbo you sit down into the car. I just couldn't justify the extra $30K canadian to go from my 944 Turbo to the NSX. What are your experiences with both cars?

Well, just got back from Road Atlanta racing the 944 Turbo, so I've driven both cars on the track within the last three weeks so thats what I'll comment on as it seems you're interested in performance. First off, given equivalent stock cars, the NSX is a LOT faster than any 944 Turbo, S or non-S. Period, no comparison. The suspension on the NSX is much better suited to daily driving than the 951 and is much more comfortable on long drives. As a daily driver, I'd take the NSX any day. That said, on the track, I'd take my 951 over an NSX anyday. But I've also got $50k worth of modifications done to my Porsche to make it a competitive racecar. Given unlimited resources which would I prefer? Probably the Porsche still, there are more aftermarket suppliers of performance parts and much more testing has been done on the car to make it fast. The NSX is great, and if more people raced them the parts would follow. It's just an expensive car and not a lot of people like to abuse them on the track. So my thoughts, want a racecar, get the 944 Turbo and be prepared to spend a LOT of money to make it as fast as an NSX on the track. But you can also make it a good bit faster at the limit. If you want a really fast street car, that looks great, catches the eye of every cop you pass, then get an NSX. You won't regret either car, they are both great at what they do.

LT WHAT?
