Your bottom-end torque will suck like shit but your top-end is a different story...

i don't think that idea would be too good because your stock muffler is setup to use, i dunno, 1.25" piping? There's no way you can change that so if you use 2.5" piping and hook it up to your stock muffler, the piping is gonna go from 2.5" to 1.5" and that's really bad for exhaust gas flow.

yeah wouldnt that give me crazy backpressure?
too much? what is an aftermarket muffler that isnt very freeflowing??? i want low rpm torque, dont care about top speed just want quick 0-60 , right now i have dc 4 2 1 and intake thats it
WHAT DO I NEED???
help

If you don't want a free flowing muffler, keep your stock one. But I would assume you would, so get an aftermarket muffler, but it won't do much unless you get the piping for the entire exhaust system. I would think 2.5" is a little too big, I hear 2.25" is a good size for a naturally aspirated car. By adding an intake, headers, and exhaust, you're just letting the car breathe better, helping it achieve more of its potential. You're not really adding power, technically your taking back some power that was lost in the restrictive airflow.
If you want torque, get a bigger engine. Sorry, but Honda isn't known for being torque monsters. I don't think you'll get "hella torque" from anything when you have a 1.6 liter. Remember, by adding bolt ons, even though it says you may gain 10 hp from headers, 5 hp from exhaust, and 5 from an intake, it doesn't mean that you get 20 hp added. These hp figures are peak hp figures that are throughout different areas in the powerband. On average, besides the peak hp gain, you'd be lucky to gain a couple hp all around. What this all means is that adding bolt ons will just take a Civic Si (99-00) from a high 15's to a mid to low 15's car in the quarter mile.
It all depends on how much you want to spend I guess, but you're working off a poor platform. Unless you do something drastic like forced induction or increasing your engine size, you're looking at an uphill battle.

hi, the stock muffler might screw you up if your engine is modified so much that it expels too much exhaust gas for your muffler to shot out fast enough, too much backpressure is really bad because the exhaust gas wound leave your cylinders fast enough and will mix with the fresh air and fuel that is coming in also the exhaust fumes stuck in your exhaust manifold is not exactly good for scavenging so... you can try to get a torque exhaust like the mugen one, a torque exhaust has a pipe going into the muffler then a pipe that comes out and loops back and then back into the exhaust (it's kinda hard to explain. But basically if you don't get a free flowing exhaust then you should be cool

well i have a 96 hatchy and i gots a 2.25 inch pipin, with a stock muffler...it looses hp but gives me more torque.. i have to say it gives me better performance on drag but not high end. All i care about is anywayz is draggin..so yea..
late!.
