I made a road trip to Edmonton (about 3 hours one way) on the weekend for a little house warming (wrecking) party at a friends place. This was the first road trip of the year with my 1989 944 Turbo. I just put on a Bursch Cat-bypass and Lindsey racing boost enhancer. I was having fun with the added throttle response and engine note all the way up and back but couldn't get anyone to play with me. I even had a 1990 Mustang GT owner back down from a challenge after I pulled up beside him on the freeway and did a hard pull a car length or so ahead. For the most part there were no comparable cars to play with the entire weekend. Then tonight I went cruising around here in Calgary and couldn't get any takers either. Even the old reliable pumped up civics w/fart cannons wouldn't bite. So I went and washed the car and headed out of town on the major highway south to "dry" the car On the way back a young kid in an Escort GT did a flyby while I was just cruising at legal speeds. I stepped into it a little and easily caught up to about 2 cars behind him. I then decided to drop a gear (into 3rd) and get into the meaty part of my power band and give him a good full power pass w/turbo whine and engine roar. I screamed past him and then slowed down to let him catch up. The grin on his face was ear to ear and almost comical....definately made his day. I'm sure he'll be telling his buddies about it tonight. Hopefully that'll convince him to lose the Escort GT and get something with some performance potential.
Yah, I know I should pick on someone my own size but I also know that when I was younger I would have been smiling from ear to ear as well to see and hear a good high performance car scream by and play with me for a bit. Just thought I would share. Hopefully I'll get some better competition as the summer approaches.
