V8s can hang with V12s just as easily as inline 4s can hang with V8s...go to speedhawaii.com and download the vid in which a 94 T-bird takes on a brand new Viper and hangs with it till the end.

With a lil knowledge, its easy to tune out over 500 hp off of a V8.

Ok I understand kinda waht your saying about weight but hey don't you think that having doubled the cylinders than a 4 banger should be able to componciate for the weight difference..... And as for saying that all the v8s we raced were stock, how you going to tell me that every single one of the v8's we ran were stock except exhasut, come on now. Actually I think It was friday I raced a white superchaged 5.0 got it on tape from the passenger side and it was close but ended up beating him by a car.... so that thing was modded, and saying that all the v8's we ran weren't tuned right I mean how are you going to be able to say that also, you can't legetly say that they weren't modded, or tuned right especially if you don't own the car... You even guaranteed that if someone runs 13.7 against you, you will spank them so I'm imagining you run low low 13's probably. How in the hell do you expect us to believe that 3 mods will chop about 3 full seconds off your quarter mile times???? What do those cars run stock? high 15's??? I gotta agree and say that that was the dumbest thing I've ever heard about not being able to put a car in the 11's for under 5 grand!!!! THAT IS STRAIGHT IGNORANT!!!! I don't suppose we're talking about the purchase price of the vehicle also are we???? I'll give two examples just in case you were including/excluding the buying price of the car.

Buy any used LS1 Camaro/TA
Buy some slicks
Buy a clutch if it's a stick, shift kit and converter if it's an auto
Slap 4.10's in it
Buy ANY nitrous kit on the market

BAM, you're running 11's... You might break some parts sooner or later but I won't even get into how many imports I've seen blow shit up at the track....

Okay here's if we INCLUDE the price of the car.

Buy a beater Mustang notch/or 3rd gen Bowtie like an IROC preferably with no motor no tranny (probably about a grand or 1500
Strip it down to nothing
Buy lightweight wheels and slicks (preferably used to save $$$)
Invest the rest of the money in either a 400 SBC or a big block...
Buy a glide or a TH400
Slap a 250 shot of squeeze on it
Hold the hell on!!!!

For under 5K you wouldn't get many passes out of this car before you shelled something (not the motor or tranny but something in the drivetrain).. If you wanted to make it bulletproof you'd have to upgrade the rearend to a 12bolt or a 9" which would set you back another grand if you did it the used route. But either way you're talking 10-11 second performance for about 6-7K....

Okay so now I want to hear a similar version of this story only using imports. I don't know specifically how much it would cost to get an import into the 11's with 5K but educate me... So you want a domestic car, lighter than your Rex and faster? Too fucking easy- Omni GLH-S. The Omni "Goes Like Hell- Shelby" was about the same weight as a CRX with a Mopar 2.2L Turbo charged and Intercooled engine. From the factory, the GLH-S pumped out 175hp and would scream through the 1/4 mile at 14.7 on street tires. With very few mods, these little sleepers would run 12's on streetires and 11's were barely a challenge. Even today, these bastards beat up on unsuspecting camaros and corvettes, not even toying with the easily killed 4 cylinder imports. Oh, and in typical 80's Dodge style, they were ugly little boxes too.

I almost forgot, you insist on cars being "All motor", weighing under a ton and running 11's. Easy enough. How bout a Dodge Neon with a 2.4L motor swapped in? (After all, you Honduh kids do it, why can't we?) Just on the motor, this setup will run 13.4's all day at the strip. With some head work, better intake manifold and different ECU, low 12's are the norm and 11's are just a set of slicks away. And in keeping with your budget, a used Neon can be had for $3500, the 2.4 can be bought for around $500, and the install and build up can be done for $2000.

But you can, why say you would take that lil car anyday when im pretty sure the value of your civic far exceeds the value of that little red beater. You could problably pick up the little red beater, run 12's and still have enough money for a 90-93 teg to cruise in. Some people choose to go fast, some people choose to look fast, and very few can afford to do both. When you cant afford both you can tell the real racers, who have a beater that runs 12's from the guys with wing west body kits running 16's.
