Can anyone give me some cheap or free tips to tweak my car a bit? And does a straight pipe do anything for performance? Any tip would be appreciated...

You could tighten your throttle cable (free), run a testpipe (about $10 at local muffler shop, ghetto rig or cut off the muffler for your intake (flex pipe CAI). straight pipe is good for higher rpms or top speeds

These actually work trust me we did it on a crx. remove your air box and replace it with a sock and a rubber band. Use the rubberband to hold the sock on.

cut the tips off your muffler if it's stock. No preformance but it will sound better.

take cat off car and hollow it out. High flow cat.

one of the easiest things to do, like people already said, is to remove your airbox resonator and replace it with a tube or something that goes down into the fenderwell. sorta like a CAI almost. you might wanna drop in a K&N while you're at it but i think they run like $50.

Are u serious about the sock? I don't know shit about the mechanical part of cars...my dad owns transmission, clutch diff, shop...its called Lee Myles in the states ....and I can get shit for free so if u have any other ideas thatinvolve stuff like that pls tell me....What are ppl doing when they have a pipe that is facing forward from the bottom of the front bumper of the car? is that homeade intake? if u know how to do it can u post it? thnx...

SIR tranny from ur dads work. he can orderit. Shorter gear ratios make the car quicker.. IS that car carburated? Buy a holly or webber.

you have a 86 civic? anyways the sock thing kinda works but a pantyhouse would be better. you can always take out the back seats to make you car lighter. you can also adjust the throttle cable to so you have a better throttle response, you can also take off the cat but that could be a huge fine if you get caught, you can also get a limited slip differential or a tranny with closer gear ratios and stuff if you dad can get he parts for free and install it for you then go for it otherwise it's too costly for the amount of performance it's give you. also that pipe you see people have sticking out of there bumper is a cold air system basically by sucking in colder air the engine makes for power.

A cotton sock doesn't flow too well. I've tried it before. Panty hose would be better, but you will get laughed at ;)
