okay, this may sound like a stupid question, and to some it probably is, but how the fuck do you remove the e-brake handle off a '97 Civic?

my friend bought an e-brake handle and didn't want it so he gave it to me. i've been tugging at the stock handle forever and nothing happens. do i have to cut the damn thing off or something?

I have a 99 civic and i was tugging at the brake handle for a year. I had to buy a little hacksaw from target and cut if off. be careful when you cut it, i made a few dings on the metal. It took about an hour to saw that shit off. Damn i installed my intake faster!

coo thanks but i found an easier way. initially, i tried the cutting method and accidentally cut a little knick in the push-button so i was like, fuck this shit.

after wasting an hour of cutting with nothing really happening except a cut-up e-brake handle and an e-brake handle button with a knick in it, i decided to use hammers. i used a metal hammer and a rubber hammer. i separated the boot from the base of the e-brake handle. then, i used the prong part of the hammer and put it up against the base of the e-brake handle. i gently tapped on it with the rubber hammer and after 30 seconds the thing started moving forward and fell off.

pretty simple and i wish i'd known about that sooner. it took me an hour to realize that was an easier solution, LOL. oh well. what can ya do. it's all about learning right?

I dont know if this trick will work, but when I worked at a bike shop long ago we would use a can of WD40 and wedge the little spout tubey thing between the handle bars and the grip to remove the handle bar grips.

the same procedure might work with the E brake handle.

u can use rubber dishwashing gloves so u get more grip and use superhuman strength to pull it off...that's wat i did w/ my handle...took a good 30 min

This may seem like a stupid question, but why DO you take your e-brake handel off? Just curious.

I think they're swapping them with a leather or aluminum one.
