I have been doing a lot of camping and off-roading for that matter. I am looking into ATVs as another toy for this summer. I have not picked up a magazine yet, just searching online. I want a 400cc+ motor and still fairly inexpensive. This wouldn't be a one time toy as I live in the boonies. Any information is greatly appreciated.
I have looked into these ATVs so far.
Yamaha 660R Raptor (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products/unitinfo.asp?lid=1&lc=atv&cid=1&mid=46) 6,699
Suzuki Z400 (http://www.suzukicycles.com/sr_03/atv/quadsportz400/index.shtml) 5,699
Honda Sportrax 400 EX (http://www.hondamotorcycles.com/atvs/sport/model.asp?ModelName=Sportrax+400EX&ModelYear=2003&ModelId=TRX400EX3) 5,699

Raptors/banshees are insane. I drove my friends raptor 660R and mearly threw myself about 4 times, and I was scared shitless about how fast it took off. It is fun though

i have 2 atvs and there a lot of fun i own a 99 blaster and a 01 lakota. i wouldnt sugest a raptor, z400, or a ds650 to a newbie. they have lots of power and they are mucher harder to control then a smaller one. i can do a wheelie in 3rd gear on my blaster so i know its got enough power.

Thanks for the info. I have experience but not on quads. I figured it wasn't going to be a problem considering my past and I also plan to get more experienced with my friends ATVs.

How about a Cannondale? Now'd be a nice time to pick one up before the American company folds up.

Thanks Rob, I found the website but it is down. I was also looking on sportquad.com and found some interesting information. Where did you hear they are going out of business?

im a two wheel fan, even though quads are fun, but they can't go all places that bikes can, at least in cali. i have a ton of fun on RM250, then i occasionally get my dads KTM520mxc out, and man, that is fun, even though i have rode both, i perfer bikes over quads, just because of thw weight factor, the possibility of a roll over, and yeah can muscle a quad in the air, but a bike is more manuverable in the air, or on a nice single track.
on a side note, my dads old roommate had a honda 400ex, and that thing moved, its a very nice quad, banshee's are sweet to.
get the one lyou like, and you feel you can handle.

Thanks Mr. Rogers. I plan to do more research and choose the right atv or even bike for me this summer. I don't plan on rushing into things or getting in over my head. This summer will help me figure out what is right for me :D

Its the Shit.
I have a 2002 Yamaha 660cc Raptor (QUAD) It has a DMC Alien headpipe(header), pipe, and a K&N jet kit on it. Carbon Fiber look fron headlight cover. Ridden no more than 15 times. Few scratchs and little stress marks on rear left fender and front left fender. nothing major.
I will let go for $5250.00
