Right now, I have an AEM CAI. Lately, I've been thinking about selling it and replacing it with the stock airbox. I'd leave out the airbox resonator and also install a K&N drop-in airfilter. Just curious - would that setup provide the same "horsepower" (more like throttle response, I guess) as a regular intake (i.e. the AEM short-ram intake or K&N FIPK II)? I heard that the stock airbox on most cars isn't the biggest restriction, which is why intakes don't really give a good HP gain. Just wondering. thank ya kindly, :)

oh yeah, would leaving out the airbox resonator provide any sound increase? meaning, would it make my car sound like it had an aftermarket intake? cuz i think that sound is kinda weird and don't really like it too much. . .too much hissing and stuff. hissing's only good if it's backed by a turbo, :p

Dont take my word for it, but i've heard just the opposite. CAI greatly improves the engines ability to breath. I know that when i got my CAI, i felt the diff immediatly. But, it may be diff with diff cars. You have just got to make sure that you keep your filter clean and stuff, other wise, performance could suffer. Just my .02

Peace:D

Keep the stock airbox but replace the stock intake pipe with your AEM (saw it to length and get one hose to connect to the box). Also yes do get the K&N replacement filter. Guess what, since the air box has a hole on the bottom it sucks air from the bottom therefore same as cold air.

As for the resonator if you leave it out you will have ****pit sound increase but the outside sound will be of little difference.

With this setup you should feel that your car will pull the same as if you had the CAI intake in (hell I did). Good luck.

Referring to my last post I assumed you have the car that is posted on your signature Daniel. If I'm wrong I'm sorry.

Im not familiar with were the air box is located but if it is possible.... I would run hose farther down toward the bottom of the engine compartment... This way u suck up more outside/cold air. Your engine will perform better than. Car wont get as hot either in town...
