I heard that one could adjust the V-tec so that it could kick in at lower RPMS. Is this true or just BS? Is there any difference in the fuel-economy V-tec and the V-tec in the Si? Can the computer be adjusted for any of these?
Thanks for the support.

MSD sells a Vtec RPM module that allows you to adjust when the Vtec kicks in. I dont know how much it is, but you also have to buy the little chip(like the ones in shift-lights) that tells the module what RPM you would like it to begin at. I dont know about anything else that you posted...sorry man

Oh, BTW...to race or not to race, there is NO question. hahaha

Peace:D

well, the best way to adjust your VTEC so it comes in at a lower RPM is to buy a Field's VTEC controller or an A'PEXi V-AFC. they both do the same but the a'pexi has a cool screen with a bunch of stuff on it so you get the Skyline thing going in the ****pit, hehe. also, they both adjust the fuel, too, so your engine is getting the proper amount of fuel when you set the VTEC to kick in lower.

oh yeah, i forgot. about the chip - Spoon Sports sells a ECU chip that lowers when VTEC kicks in and it also raises the redline. raising the redline though would be useless since your car's not making any power up there (since it was originally designed for the OEM redline, not the aftermarket redline). but if you want to lower your VTEC engagement you can get the Spoon chip.

when you get the vtec controller don't lower the vtec so it kick in below 3500 cause it's not good for your engine

you won't acutally gain more hp...when in vtec in lower rpm's it actually made my car weaker well incase you do get a vtec controller get some cam gears n dyno for max results
lower rpms on my gsr...nah not made for it

yeah i heard that a vtec controller helps for heavily modded cars, but for a stock car it won't really help, if anything it will hurt power output. Those honda engineering put the crossover at a certain point for a reason.....

Another thing to consider with VTEC controllers is the car it's going on. If it's a high-strung, short-geared car, like an Integra GSR, for example, setting the VTEC to kick in at a lower RPM will hurt performance due to the GSR's gearing. The Integra has gears that are set to keep the car in the powerband which is way up high in the RPMs, right? Obviously, the powerband, too, is way up high in the RPMs. By setting the VTEC to kick in around 5500 RPM, for instance, the power will peak at 5500 RPM and taper off thereafter. So, while in a racing situation where you're shifting at redline, and the tachometer needle drops back down, your car will be revving in an area of the powerband that's low on HP and torque because you set the car's optimum performance to be in the mid-range, not the high-end where the gears were set to help the car perform its best. Just a little food for thought. . . .
